I wasn't sure about this at first but...honestly I actually liked this. Amy Lee really hasn't lost her edge since the last time and really makes this song worthwhile.

'The album, which features reworkings and remixes of the band's older material as well as some new songs'
So basically... this is Lost Whispers 2.0?
JUST RELEASE A STANDARD NEW FUCKING ALBUM PLEASE.
| |
Apparently they are going to make a new standard album after Synthesis. Guess I'll just sit here and wait for that then...
Lost Whispers only had one re-work though, the rest was all b-sides. I actually enjoyed that album--hadn't heard most of those songs before.
| |
wait these guys are still active
lol
| |
2004 is stoked
| |
I have a huge soft spot for Evanescence but this is horrible horrible. The orchestral version of Bring Me to Life they released sucks as well. What is this shit?
| |
i believe they call it evanescence
| |
meh.
| |
band has always been terrible
| |
Fallen has some jams tho.
| |
"...over 8 years... since 2011."
Um.
| |
maf is hard
| |
Oh god. Not like this...
| |
2004 is stoked [2]
| |
While I'd rather have a proper new album, I can dig it.
| |
Nice to hear this album will have more than just reworked old songs.
| |
Fallen has some jams tho. [2]
| |
Will check this. Awesome symphonic metal band!
| |
wake me up inside
| |
WAKE ME UP
| |
wake me up inside
| |
"Awesome symphonic metal band!"
Hahaha oh my god you will be so disappointed by this track, sorry
... The only thing about this that isn't totally shallow is the vocal performance. Lee's still got it. Don't get why they thought they had to release this thing though. The Bring Me To Life version was impudently sapless, too.
| |
Not enough WAKE ME UPs
| |
Amy Lee still has that beautiful voice but God damn it this is bad
| |
started of suspect but lee still got it
| |
Awesome symphonic metal band!
| |
Wasnt expecting much but this is awesome
| |
Well, that was better than I thought it would be. It could have been mixed better, though.
| |
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I've been waiting for this a long time already >:]
| |
Nice of them to recruit a second guitarist, and then when they finally release a new song there doesn't seem to be a single guitar in sight. What was the fucking point, seriously...
| |
Eugh I hate this.
| |
'Jam nightwish'
[2]
| |
how's the gathering 'symphonic'
(but yeah, jam the gathering)
| |
Sacred Worlds by Blind Guardian destroys nearly every other symphonic metal song ever. Plus, it's actually metal and it's actually symphonic, not rock with some film score orchestra noise tacked behind like Nightwish have done the last few albums. Not to start with Evanescence who have never been symphonic metal at all
| |
I mean, it's not as bad as I thought it would be considering I haven't heard an Evanescence song since 2006.
| |
rikroach: i enjoy all of those tbh, i don't feel music should be a competition. they're good in their own ways
| |
Who do you prefer? Evan? Or Escence? I like Escence.
| |
"rikroach: i enjoy all of those tbh, i don't feel music should be a competition. they're good in their own ways"
Well yeah, I agree and I think Evanescence have done a fair amount of more or less decent stuff (if I didn't I wouldn't even bother with this) and Nightwish have several really good albums (especially Oceanborn, but I never understood why people liked Wishmaster that much, never got into it). It's not like I want to talk them down, even though they are not anywhere near Blind Guardian, keeping in mind that I think hardly any other metal band matches Blind Guardian in song-writing etc.
But since this was more or less a discussion about "symphonic metal", I felt I had to compare them in that regard, because Evanescence just aren't symphonic metal (neither symphonic nor metal, even though they have had several tracks where one thing or the other was the case), while Nightwish are what people associate with the term, but they hardly ever really deserved it in what it actually means word by word, safe for some early Oceanborn era stuff. Not everything with orchestra fits the term "symphonic", that's essentially what I meant
| |
yeah i can agree with all that, although i do believe evanescence to be metal -- they're def heavy enough
| |
Their last album had some metal stuff, like that song ... I believe it was called "Never Go Back" or something. Their other stuff is mostly just rock I think, partly leaning more towards the heavier side of the genre, but not metal. That's what I'd call it
On another note, I think I'm like the only one who likes The Open Door best
| |
Fallen has bigger hits and highs, but The Open Door is more consistent imo. Both are really cool tho
| |
Open Door is my favorite too.
| |
Like You is probably my favorite Evanescene song.
| |
I feel like Open Door is essentially misunderstood, people expected some catchy alt rock tunes while Amy tried some pretty experimental stuff and actually wrote some interesting songs in the process. Like You is certainly noteworthy, Lose Control and Snow White Queen are the two most exquisite songs on that album though as far as I remember (haven't listened to it for years)
| |
the problem is that the experimentation is boring
| |
they've got catchy tunes and provide me with the most easily-digested amount of goth i need in my life
| |
Eh yeah that's why I don't listen to them anymore haha
| |
SAAAVE MEEEEEE
| |
Imperfection sounded like much of the...same? Like more of the same in sound since The Open Door- but after 1:18 into the rearranged Bring Me To Life I could see why it was worth doing, though still can't compare. Amy Lee still has it, though
| |
WAKE MEH UP
| |
Those electronic blips everywhere are hella distracting and don't help the song at all. And that's not to mention how half-awake the song sounds already.
| |
yeah, the electronic bits are the weakest point. it's cool to play with electronic flourishes, but they gotta be more careful
weird, since they did it well on their s/t
| |
ALL THIS TIME I CANT BELIEVE I COULDNT SEE
KEPT IN THE DARK BUT YOU WERE THERE IN FRONT OF ME
(best screamer ever)
