Captain, We're Sinking disband

2018-02-12 by ian b. | 59 Comments
Modern Scranton punk legends Captain, We're Sinking announced on their Facebook last night that they were officially no longer a band after 3 albums and 13 years.

They wrote the following:

“Hulloh, friends! I guess we gotta do this here and now. We are no longer a band. Bum Out City, USA. We had a great time, doh! We are still the best of friends and we aim to keep it that way. Probably about half the reason why we are no longer going to continue with this band. We can't thank YOU ALL enough for the support, kind words, shows, conversations, floors to sleep on, food to eat and general shenanigans! We are all continuing with music with each other and without. We're very happy with what we've done with these 10 plus years as Captain, We're Sinking, but it's time to stop.
BE COOL, PEOPLE!
-C,WS!”

This comes after 2017's The King of No Man, the long awaited follow-up to 2013's classic The Future Is Cancelled, which was released to moderate reception and served as a fitting send-out for a legendary band.

If only they had broken up BEFORE King came out. Then we could have spent all these years pining about their wasted potential instead of realizing they didn't have any.

That would have been an excellent album title to finish on too. The Future is Cancelled and then boom, they break up.

im actually glad they released TKONM before breaking up for this very reason. now at least i can rest easy knowing TFIC was probably just a fluke and they didnt have much else of quality to say anyways.

ugh. Their last album was pretty good people! It wasn't as great as TFIC, but still.

Hoping for a good new group or another Bobby Barnett album out of this.

Also.. that breakup letter is super lame yo

@Feather - they did like a week supporting Menzingers on the East Coast in July (mostly B-markets I think, I saw them in Lancaster PA) and some headlining dates here and there, but no proper tour supporting the record. In fact, they didn't even do a proper tour for TFIC. Just a couple short runs here and there. I think the longest was in 2013 opening for Menzos, Fake Problems and Restorations. Shame, cause even though I wasn't crazy about King of No Man, they are an absolutely fantastic live band. Glad I got to see them a bunch of times, including a house show where they played TFIC front-to-back in 2014.

I mean I'm from Pittsburgh, should Mac Miller and Wiz Khalifa be described as "Steel City Legends" next time any news comes out about them? The title is over the top and an exaggeration. They're a great band and I'm sure they're very popular hometown kids in Scranton, they're not legends.

Eh, you're not wrong. I agree that it's exaggerated. Should be amended to say "Sput legends."

Don't know if they're legends but "the future is cancelled" is truly a great album. One of the few to come out of all these mediocre pop punk/emo bands nowadays.

TFIC has been such an important album in my life, I really can't thank this band enough for always being there when I needed their music the most.
