Machine Head drop 3 track EP

2021-06-11 by Toondude | 28 Comments
Machine Head have officially dropped three brand new tracks, entitled "Become The Firestorm", "Rotten" and "Arrows in Words from the Sky". All three tracks have been release simultaneously as a 3-track EP.

The songs were produced by Zack Ohren, marking the first time the band has worked with a different producer in 20 years, since 2001's Supercharger. It also features Navene Koperweis (Whitechapel, Animals as Leaders) on session drums, hinting that the bands current drummer Matt Aston might not be in the band's upcoming record.

While a new album is expected to drop sometime this year, it is unknown if these three tracks will be a part of it.

Check out the songs here:

The first song sounds more like Roadrunner United than Machine Head.

I do wonder what happened to Vogg and Matt Alston. Were they just touring members?

Having listened to the EP it does sound better than Catharsis and possibly even Bloodstone & Diamons. Still far behind their peak.

Arrows and Firestorm are both extremely good songs. Very surprised at how good this ep is considering how they shit the bed hard with Catharsis and those other extremely forgettable singles that they dropped last year.

Definitely sounds like machine head, but that’s probably a given considering they’ve recycled about 20 ideas across these three songs...

whole band just sounds cooked and beat to death. they even have shitty breakdowns and clean vox now like they're trying to be metalcore.

Uh...they've always had clean vox and breakdowns?

but they've always sounded like machine head doing groove metal with those things, whereas this sounds like tired metalcore chugs and bored cleans. like they want to do 00's core but don't have any of the energy.

appreciate that they're a bit faster than their usual stuff but the production is super flat, serious downgrade from colin richardson to the The Flesh Prevails guy

MH have worked with other producers in the past several years. The info in the article is not completely correct.

I actually kind of dig the first song. Not my kinda vocals but instrumentally it was cool. Haven't jammed any Machine Head since The Blackening. Used to love it when it dropped but it's been years since I revisited it

Didn't know you could rate news posts lol

Songs are okay, but why do Robb's clean vocals always sounds so fucking weird? They have to be putting some kind of effect on it, and it doesn't sound good

Well... Better than the tracks on Catharsis, or Do Or Die....

Production needs a rawer edge. Those drums are so fucking scrubbed clean that they sound plastic.

This could pass as modern Trivium - take that as you will.

YouTube music was auto playing and I liked the song that was on. Was this band. My first Machinehead song. It was probably one of these but I have no idea. Seems like I should check
