Rolo Cloaked Tomassi

2021-08-18 by Robert Garland STAFF | 58 Comments
Earlier in the year, Rolo Tomassi confirmed on Instagram they were working with Lewis Johns on their sixth studio upcoming album, following on from their high acclaimed 'Time Will Die and Love Will Bury it'.

On Monday a website titled “becomesmemory” appeared. While vague this teased the quintet’s return. After showing various clips including several of the band’s live performances, the teaser ends with “MWBM”, which is more than likely a hint to the title of the new album [probably].

Along with the new single and vague teasers, it has been announced Rolo Tomassi have signed with eOne Music. This comes after the band left Holy Roar Records in September 2020. When discussing the signing, vocalist Eva Spence had this to say “We’re excited to finally share new music after spending the last two years working on our new record. Writing has been essential for us this past year in the absence of playing live, we can’t wait to get back on the road and hope to see you at a show soon.”

The band's newest track, "Cloaked" can be heard at these locations:

inb4 YOLO, mehmeh. unremarkable chorus and huge overuse of boring junzz ft. boring keys. not awful, but they've done far better

Yeah this wasn't a massive excite creator, but considering there's little to no info on a new album other than a 'maybe something something' it could be a stand alone. Maybe some true singles will land with album titles and new art etc.

its pretty good, chorus especially is nice and that bridge later on where the twinkly synth sequence comes in, but production sounds a little flat unfortunately, idk if that's just youtube though.

I guess it'll depend on the album as a whole. "Time Will Die..." really shines when it's the whole piece so we'll see if this one does as well.

yeah the junzy breakdown was not my favorite and the youtube mix is awful but I liked everything else

that said I really hope this is just one piece of the puzzle and not the start of a new djenty RT

'Meshuggah was a mistake'

Ugh, please don't say it's so. I'm going in with tempered expectations at least, probably for the best.

spotify makes it sound loads better, which is encouraging. the production helped Time Will Die a lot and I'd hate to see the band sacrifice atmosphere in the name of sounding 'clean'

This band has been hit or miss for me, but their last record was top tier and criminally overlooked. Probably one of the best “metal etc” records of the past decade. I have very high hopes for this one. This track is more straightforward sounding, but I dig it.

Lol their last record certainly wasn't 'criminally overlooked' here at least, the Sputhype was off the charts (and for good reason).

so so good

i really think what helped get me into these guys was their last record (its production quality is way more full and bass rich than previous releases...)

this continues in that vein. A beautiful soup of sound

Love the instrumental but really don't feel like Eva's clean vocals fit on this one at all. The juxtaposition is jarring to me.
