This is dreadful, and as much as you guys say he won’t come back from this, yes he will. There will be plenty of Daughters fans who either won’t care or won’t believe her. There are still tonnes of people who think Ethan Kath is innocent, or that Jesse Lacey did nothing wrong. People are becoming desensitised to this stuff because every week another artist is accused of something. Not to take away from the victim here but it’s becoming so frequent it’s almost a drinking game, take a shot every time someone you listen to turns out to be a rapist. @doof you seem obliviously naive about the psychological mechanisms and thought patterns of people who have suffered these kinds of abuses, or how comorbid mental illnesses such as those Kristen suffers from can effect the victim's own insight into what is happening to them and subsequently, the recovery process. it's clear also that you are oddly unwilling to grapple with the fact that some people can lack the kind of support systems or means to access them that you seem to take for granted

while I don't indend to doubt the sincerity of your sympathy, you could potentially benefit from exposing yourself more to the stories of other survivors (read: engage with them in good faith) and learn more about the psychological side of abuse as well

I'm so disappointed to hear about this and I remember seeing that Instagram post she talked about and everyone wanted him to succeed, it sucks having to know about your favorite musicians in this light because it feels like such a betrayal. I completely understand what Kristen had gone through and why she stayed because it's always the same things that happen, I've even encountered some of those things in my relationship like love bombing, you'll be everything to them and they can't imagine life without you and they ask for a ring constantly and get really upset when you say no to the point they'll try to humiliate you in public by talking shit about you or flirting with other guys. It pisses you off, it's annoying but it's also just really tiring and then when you ultimately don't want to spend time with them they'll ask why you're being so mean. One of these things may have contributed to the other..

Maybe someone who's studied the subject/psychology can offer me a little insight here, as there's something I've never quite understood about emotionally manipulative abuser types... how do the damn fuckers know who to seek out for their 'relationships'? It's clearly calculated. Unfortunately for the victims they're often vulnerable to begin with, oftentimes because they've already suffered abuse/trauma in the past. Where does this 6th sense come from?

This question actually comes courtesy of my wife (without her knowledge) because she knows a couple of lasses who seem destined to be persistently involved in unhealthy/toxic relationships like this... hopefully nothing approaching this level of shocking abuse, but in one case it did get pretty nasty. In one of the cases the woman in question is outwardly confident as well, whereas she (my wife) is quieter/more reserved, yet no-one has targeted her fortunately (well, if they tried initially then nothing came of it).

So back to the original point, how do these awful people know where/what to look for in potential victims? Seems fucked up to ask this I know, but any discourse on the matter may aid in identifying certain situations if confronted with them in the future.

@Demon: I don’t think it’s a matter of somebody like Alexis immediately knowing what victim to exploit, but rather how to exploit a victim’s weaknesses once he’s been with her for a while. Unfortunately, a lot of abusers are very astute when it comes to finding something they can exploit about/from their partners for manipulation purposes, and that largely comes from getting to know the person better and weaponizing that against them

Still, I know what you mean. I’m pretty sure in Alexis’ case, he’s already been around the block as far as abuse goes (many corroborators have said as much) and he probably knows what he’s doing (unfortunately) at this point

Unfortunately, in this case, his "desire" seems to fall solely in gratifying his own self sexually, and he doesn't give a damn what he has to do to get it. Women mean nothing more than gratification for his lust, his own kids mean nothing to him. Other humans are little more than simply obstacles to his insane insatiable lust.

While i guarantee you he didn't give a single fuck about KH as a person while they were together, he was definitely astutely listening to her all the time. Listening for signs of weakness. Signs for her to let her guard down. Once he got that, he just would use it against her psychologically to keep her imprisoned, emotionally (made her feel worthless so she stayed with him), and physically (all the abuse he made her take and the multitude of times he raped her without consent too).

Demon- I think in this particular case Kristen was very open about her past trauma. That’s often how it works. The manipulative person doesn’t always know that their potential victim is weak. But they get to know them and put on a facade of comfort and support in order to get them to let their guard down. Kristen opened up to him about her past because he paraded himself as a strong pillar of support for her - but it was just a tactic for him to further manipulate her. But I've arrived at the position that a lot of precious good will is wasted on people like him. He doesn't want to change and will only play at it, at best. It's an optimistic picture that he ever cleans up his act, and more realistic that he stay this same piece of shit for the rest of his natural life and burns everyone close to him in some way or another. His kids are probably better off without him, whether they know it or not. No one capable of being this way to people should BE around kids or responsible for their development.

While I agree it's a waste to expect others to change, you should still forgive people who don't say sorry for YOURSELF and your own healing. Otherwise you let those negative feelings and memories affect you while they continue with reckless abandon. So I wouldn't totally abandon this notion.

Should also clarify that forgiveness isn’t necessarily the same as choosing to heal for yourself from someone who will never acknowledge they’ve done wrong.
