I like this news! I think I already said it in the Nocturnal thread but I really think that Trevor would have wanted them to continue on. It's going to be tough to get anywhere near matching his vocals but hopefully Brian does a solid job filling the position. Didn't expect him to full on take up vocals. Has he done vocals in any other bands?
|
| |
Bittersweet but respect for them
|
| |
I wonder if they even considered anyone else to take the position? But I understand the decision to go with someone they know well.
|
| |
I haven't ever seen TBDM live so i'm not sure how Brian is, but if they're confident in him i'm sure he's awesome! This is the only way I would've been content with them continuing (like they care), an outside party coming in to do vocals would've been weird.
|
| |
Never cared for the band, but it warms my cold black heart to see a band persevere through such a tragic loss.
Good luck to these guys. From everything I read about the him, Trevor seemed like a really solid guy.
|
| |
Why?
|
| |
^ Didn’t you bother reading their explanation?
|
| |
I imagine the decision doesn't come lightly but I'm glad to hear it happened.
|
| |
yeah I too think trevor would have wanted this, haven't really enjoyed them in years but glad to hear they're still kicking
|
| |
This is probably the best move they could have made in this situation. It'll definitely be interesting to hear Brian on vox, but I'm sure he'll kill it
|
| |
Will be interesting to hear what his vocal style will be. If it's more guttral it'll change the way a lot of their songs will sound.
|
| |
Just based on the times I've seen them live I'm guessing it'll be mostly growls from him but who knows he could possibly have some wild range up his sleeve. Honestly I doubt he'd be taking that position without knowing he can kill it in the vocalist spot. Going to miss Trevor's vocals though. He's been one of my favorite vocalist since I discovered them early on in my metal journey. The way he could immediately go from those insane highs to the gutturals was awesome. His highs specifically were very distinct imo
|
| |
doesn't seem like he's done vox before and this has been his only project since joining in 2001. Best move I guess, hope the next album is good.
|
| |
Glad they're going to keep making music. Interesting shift in lineup, I hope the guitars are still great
|
| |
Ryan Knight was present on some damn fine albums from them so I feel like the guitars will be just fine
|
| |
I can't stand this band, super repetitive and predictable but I agree that they are cool people and incredible musicians. I was really sad hearing about Trevor, super cool guy with an incredible knowledge in metal. Wish them the best!
|
| |
Great and respectful move to keep it in the family.
I'm sure this will please a lot of their die-hard fans.
Don't know all their stuff but I'm very fond of Ritual and I liked Everblack and Nocturnal
|
| |
This is about as mindful and respectful they could've handled this situation as far as moving forward as a band despite what they had to go through. As others have mentioned, I feel this is something Trevor would've wanted -- and would smile at from the afterlife.
Really looking forward to see what they do going forward. I have a feeling they're going to swing for the fences and succeed tremendously.

"Boss move and the best way to honour Trevor's legacy."
Could not agree more, best news ive heard since the horrible loss of Trevor.
|
| |
Im pretty sure Brian does the lead vocals on this song

|
| |
Bad choice I think, look at Suicide Silence without Mitch.
But alas $$$$$
|
| |
bad analogy jeremiah, suicide silence was never good
|
| |
Hell yeah
|
| |
If that really is Brian on the track Crusty posted I'm excited to hear their upcoming material. Definitely dig his approach on that track quite a bit
|
| |
It's definitely not Trevor, so if we are going by deduction then yeah he seems capable of carrying on albeit nobody will ever be able to replace Trevor. Dude was beyond talented and the amount of star power and stage presence he had was insane.
|
| |
'This is probably the best move they could have made in this situation.'
yeah this is much better than brining in someone from the outside, there's no-one 'completely new' here and it probably represents the best way to honour Trevor
Good luck to 'em!
|
| |
damn...didn't know he passed until this post
|
| |
I mean, this is their career. There's not much of an option to just abandon it. I have no idea what their net worths are, but most of these bands really don't make that much even if they're famous.
|
| |
"But alas $$$$$"
Im sure thats part if it, it is their livelihood after all. On that basis alone i couldnt fault them for this, but i dont think its just about the money.
|
| |
I don’t know if the band is profitable enough to be their full time job, but I know if the lead vocalist in my favorite band passed at a tragically young age I would absolutely want them to continue on.
It pleases the fans and helps pay the bills.
|
| |
This is their only job. They were constantly touring, before the pandemic.
|
| |
seems like a sensible way to carry on. good to see Ryan Knight back in the fold too, he had great parts on Deflorate and Ritual
|
| |
Nightbringers went #35 on the US charts but for some reason Verminous didn't sell as well--but they're still probably a pretty big band for our scene. presumably a full-time thing.
|
| |
Good for them
I will forever miss Trevor's vox but I would also be interested to see how they move forward
|
| |
Trevor was a formidable vocalist and it is a shame he is no longer with us but this is good news as I think they will still continue to be as consistent as they always have been.
|
| |
I really don't think they'll drive the band into the ground Suicide Silence style and I definitely don't think this is strictly about their cash flow either. Just based on hearing Trevor over the years in interviews and on podcasts I really do think he'd want them to keep going. If you look at how consistent they've been in the studio and the nonstop touring I can't imagine them just putting that to a halt and the fact that they're keeping it in house is respectable as hell.
I feel like the sales drop for Verminous was most likely due to it dropping towards the beginning of lockdown. That was a risky time to drop anything I'd imagine. Sure everyone was stuck at home and many bored but I don't think many people were consuming things like they normally would at that time.
|
| |
the drop is also noticeable on spotify too, which is also odd.
|
| |
A little bit. When I said the consuming thing I meant more taking stuff in in general rather than just buying though. Not everyone did but I noticed when the whole lockdown thing went down a ton of people I know fell into nostalgia mode rather than seeking out new things so much, myself included. That was a weird little chunk of time. Outside of these guys and if I remember right Testament, it seemed like most bands held their albums for awhile rather than dropping.
I dug Verminous but it was a step down from some of their other recent stuff imo. Real solid album but it's replay value isn't quite up to par with most of their discography for me
|
| |
Verminous is my favorite BDM album. Melody is a big deal to me though and it’s their most melodic driven album, so it checks out.
|
| |
Verminous is great, band is crazy consistent
|
| |
this is awesome news
