There was a ton of build up leading to this announcement. They dragged this 'mystery' out for a while. I expected a bigger announcement based on all the hype they tried to build. I honestly expected a new song or a re-recorded song, at least.
The Documentary doesn't show him singing at all. It does mention that he did some vocal covers somewhere, but I couldn't find those during my brief search.
Edit: Found him covering Dielectric...

Well, he has some huge shoes to fill.
Edit:
didn’t read the news item part where the new singer admits as much
|
| |
Wait do people still listen to this band
|
| |
so they just got a bad soundalike and then gave him a makeover to look like Burton too?
|
| |
They should’ve leaned into the idea they’re hiring a random guy from Instagram (Apparently? Can’t find literally anything else on this dude) which would be kinda cool I suppose. The way they framed it was like it was an old head from some defunct band we’d at least recognize. No offense to the new guy but they set him up for a “Who?” moment.
|
| |
[2]
the video was pretty cool and he seems to be getting good support in the comments but yeah, if you're gonna hype then be prepared for disappointment when nobody knows the guy
|
| |
I was half expecting them to have Robb Flynn as a possible vocalist lmao
|
| |
It’s almost like they’re old and out of touch
|
| |
I knew I wasn't crazy. This came from an earlier interview:
"FEAR FACTORY singer and music will be coming just before the tour with STATIC-X," he said. "End of February is the first show, so just before that we'll be releasing the single and the singer. And then boom — right on the road."
They released the singer that no one knows that barely even has an online presence, but no single. The first show is in four days, so I don't know if they're going to make good with that second part. We'll just have to wait for the grainy YouTube videos.
|
| |
Congrats Milo : )
|
| |
Thanks a lot for the link, Willie. Was really disappointed by the announcement without showing anything, not even a snippet.
Based on what I heard in that video, it could work out. I am not blown away, but I biggest fear was that we get a generic metal core vocalist (Mnemic anyone). Luckily, this did not happen.
|
| |
kind of sad I won't see Burton for my first live show of theirs, but hopefully this guy has the chops to pull it off
|
| |
Mnemic's vocalist is dead so that wouldn't have happened
|
| |
Yep dead at 44 yo for no reason. Obviously.
|
| |
lmao this is funny as heck.
he sounds so similar to burton.
|
| |
glad you think I'm funny birb
|
| |
Are you fucking serious?
I feel bad for this guy, it's not his fault. I'm sure he'll do great...but I actually really love Fear Factory so I've been following this pretty closely, anxiously awaiting this reveal. It's just a rando with no new song/rerecorded old song?
Damn. My balls are rather blue.
|
| |
Also I personally would have preferred a slightly different spin on the vocals if they were going to go with a whole new singer for the first time since their inception but I guess we'll see
|
| |
very disappointed he’s not fat
|
| |
Last album I've heard of theirs was the 2001 one. Will check some newer stuff though. Hope the new guy kills it
|
| |
"Also I personally would have preferred a slightly different spin on the vocals if they were going to go with a whole new singer for the first time since their inception but I guess we'll see"
This might be my biggest issue here too. I don't care at all for Fear Factory currently, haven't for a long time, but it's largely because they continue scratching the same itch all the albums before them did. This could have been their opportunity to spice things up a bit, but they picked someone from their diehard fanbase with idk how much performing experience, doesn't seem like much, who said he has big shoes to fill, which to me means he's going to try as best he can to sound like Burton and not explore the best version of himself or even expose FF to those possibilities.
That's my shitty take after knowing about this for an hour when FF spent years evaluating this guy as a candidate so
|
| |
The video I linked above was a cover song from before he was in the band (if I'm reading it right). My hope is now that he is in the band he won't try to 'cover' Burton's vocals, he'll bring more of himself to the songs. Or maybe it will be like Queensryche where in the beginning the new singer basically tried to emulate the original, and they kind of came into their own after the first tour.
|
| |
Yeah the cover was pretty good but I'm not like totally blown away or anything. I don't want to shoot the dude down before he gets a chance, though. I am really really hoping they saw something in him more than just him covering Burton well, though.
I fucking love Fear Factory but the last thing these guys need is another excuse to release the same shit over and over again. They have been needing a bit of a spicing up for a bit now.
|
| |
They needed a female vocalist. They need a change of pace, and Dino’s songwriting is formulaic. A totally different vocalist could have made the difference.
|
| |
Yeah, why not just start a different project? They've done about all they can with this one.
|
| |
Thanks for that video Willie, his growls are ok, but god his cleans sound very amateur. Dino says this is the best of 300 auditions? Jesus how were the others!?
"They needed a female vocalist. "
Never thought about it but now that you mention it, wow that would have been absolutely based.
|
| |
I'm gonna level with you, there's no way I thought Dino would still be alive in 2023
|
| |
fiddle a bit with the cleans and the casual fan won't even know they changed singer
|
| |
Dino did have a different band with a different vocalist and they kinda sucked tbh.
|
| |
Divine Heresy. They weren't bad, but that's about as diverse as Dino seems to be able to get. The main problem there was that the vocalist was lacking a little (both of them, if I remember correctly).
|
| |
Ok I listened to it again. I don't really like it.
Once again, I hope this is just a case of me not giving the dude a fair shot, but to be fair to me, they REALLY should have coupled this announcement with a recorded song of him with the band if they were going to wait like 2 fucking years and tease the ever loving shit out of this reveal. ESPECIALLY if their reason for dragging it out so long was "we dont want people to come after the guy without giving him a chance."
Now that's going to happen anyway since we have nothing else to go off of with this announcement lol
Still, seeing them live next month so I guess we shall see.
|
| |
The harsh vocals on that redd tube video are almost unrecognisable from Burton, I think you'll be fine.
|
| |
Do people still listen to this band [2]
|
| |
last album was cool so I'd say yes
|
| |
last album was meh but yeah band is still legendary and slaps
|
| |
I mean I definitely still listen to this band
In fact, I have them on right now
|
| |
Demanufacture will never not be listenable
|
| |
They got the cheapest option. Dino has bills to pay.
|
| |
Just watched the embed and on paper sounds like a good choice. I haven’t heard him sing yet but Dino and Milo put a good case forward as to why he’ll be good. You want it to sound like Fear Factory and this young dude just might have the pipes.
I met Dino after their Sydney set in December and he was a nice bloke. A bit of trust has to be put in the guy for a band he’s been doing for 30 years
|
| |
Welcome back guys, good luck Milo.
|
| |
When I saw Dino play in December, he was playing with Soulfly. They played a couple of FF songs which was cool and Dino himself did the clean parts
|
| |
Live videos of Burton during Shock era dude's lows could level buildings
|
| |
Yeah prime Burton was savage, same level as Max Cavalera
|
| |
That 1999 show from MA is like the best fucking show ever

The new vocalist of this band literally advocates for polyamory and condemns monogamy, read some of the Dead Channel lyrics
what a cuck lol
|
| |
Why does that matter?
|
| |
"The new vocalist of this band literally advocates for polyamory and condemns monogamy"
lol why did you write it like he was a terrorist
that said the "condemns" part would be very uncool unless you just fell for a provocation
|
| |
@Willie
I guess some people just have morals or something. You might not be familiar with that concept
|
| |
I’m familiar with people trying to stick their religious beliefs where they don’t belong. Consenting adults don’t have to be monogamous, no matter what you’ve been conditioned to believe.
|
| |
guaranteed the poly people I know are in happier, healthier relationships than these troglodytes ever will be
|
| |
I mean I definitely disagree lmao
My experience has been that people who live the poly life come across as a little bit less mature and insecure in their lives, but that's also just based on my small circle of people so it's not exactly a pew research finding.
Let people do whatever they want I guess, but that shit is certainly not for me.
Anyway, as long as he sounds like a murderous machine that's hell bent on destroying the human race during his live performances, I don't really give a shit who he fucks or what his opinion is on fucking.
|
| |
if it's not for you that's fine but I mean the people acting like it's some degenerate thing are definitely miserable people overall
I'm monogamous but the poly people I know are perfectly mature, well-adjuted and happy people who have been together longer than most couples I know.
|
| |
I don't disagree with that at all. Hence why I said "let people do whatever they want"
I just hope more sensitive people don't get emotionally hurt, involving other people in relationships tends to get more complicated than it sounds (speaking from experience), but I mean whatever it's not my life
And I certainly don't care what some dude in a band thinks about that sort of stuff lol
