Sufjan Stevens has announced a new album titled Javelin, which is scheduled to be released on October 6, 2023 through Asthmatic Kitty. Per Asthmatic Kitty, Javelin is Sufjan Steven's "first solo album of songs since 2020's The Ascension, and his first release in full singer-songwriter mode since 2015's Carrie & Lowell."

In addition to the album announcement, the album's first single "So You Are Tired" has also been released, and you can listen to it below:

More information about Javelin, including pre-order details, is available here: https://asthmatickitty.com/sufjan-to-release-new-album-javelin-october-6th-hear-so-you-are-tired-now/

Hopefully a true return to form here. Also is anyone else annoyed that the album art is basically just a repeat of All Delighted People?

Carrie and Lowell is a 5/5 in my opinion and this song is right up that alley. Hope the rest of the album lives up!

Ever since he found this boring melodramatic style he sounds like a try-hard.

Sounds like it could’ve come off Carrie and Lowell which isn’t necessarily a bad thing because that shit is beautiful… I just miss the energy

Yes he tries hard. That's why his work is so acclaimed. Great point.

A bit worried that this will be a regression. Song is good, but I adored The Ascension and will be disappointed if the whole album is similar to Carrie and Lowell (no matter how great it was). I love evolving Sufjan best and there is nothing new or surprising here.

Never seen someone use "tryhard" to describe music, only in games.

Wow, gorgeous! Haven't enjoyed any of his work since Carrie & Lowell but this gets me all hyped up. Sure low energy and all. But there is a lot going on in the song, a lot of good stuff.

Can a Mod edit “Reflections” (2023, LP)? It’s supposed to be an album by Sufjan Stevens, Timo Andres, & Conor Hanick. While Sufjan wrote the score, Hanick and Andres are the performers, so they certainly need credit imo

Sufjan ATL-based now or has Asthmatic Kitty's office been in Grant Park, Atlanta?

Hoping this is his Southeast/Bible Belt US album re: Denboy's comment

Appt it will be a mix of Adz and C&L in terms of sounds so we will see

that is evident from this one. I don’t think it sounds particularly like C&L, there’s a lot more going on here
