One last Sepultura drummer 2024-02-27 by DatsNotDaMetulz | 14 Comments | Sepultura have announced that Greyson Nekrutman (Suicidal Tendencies) will be the band's final drummer as they prepare for their farewell Celebrating Life Through Death Tour.
The news comes after Eloy Casagrande announced his sudden departure from the band on February 6th, ahead of the first rehearsal, with a new project already in the pipeline.
Statement from Sepultura:
"The Celebrating Life through Death tour, a farewell tour over the next 18 months that will celebrate the band's 40th anniversary and also its farewell to the stage.
Beginning of December the group clearly defined the intention at the announcement, it is a 'conscious and planned death.' As poetic as it sounds, a tour of this magnitude took nearly of year of preparing and planning which would require a lot commitment, ethics and loyalty to their fans, as well as respecting for the band's history – something that is a clear priority to Andreas Kisser, Derrick Green and Paulo Xisto.
However, On February 6th a few days prior to the first rehearsal, drummer Eloy Casagrande informed the band that he was leaving Sepultura to pursue a career in another project. The band were taken by surprise, without prior warning, he immediately left the band, abandoning everything related to Sepultura.
Luckily American virtuoso Greyson Nekrutman will take the postion of Eloy Casagrande and is welcomed as the band’s new drummer for the "Celebrating Life through Death" farewell tour."
Greyson comments: Today I express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible opportunity to join the legendary ranks of Sepultura for their farewell tour.
To contribute to this legacy is a privilege that fills me with both honor and excitement. Sepultura’s fearless approach to exploring new territories in the metal sphere is something that I have always admired and strived to emulate in my own musical endeavors. I am eagerly looking forward to adding my own spirit and passion to the mix, to connecting with the fans who have supported the band through its evolution, and to the electrifying experiences we'll create together on stage. Here's to the new chapters we'll write together, to the stages we'll conquer, and to the powerful music we'll unleash upon the world."

Yes, I do think Eloy is the new Slipknot drummer
| | | Both those dudes are so so good, they won’t miss a beat
| | | "abandoning everything related to Sepultura". Ooh, you can tell they're sore about it
| | | CAUSE BABY NOW WE GOT BAAAAAAAAAD BLOOOOOOOOD
yeah you can definitely tell they're frustrated and chose their worse carefully
| | | Judging by the way they expressed in this announcement, I bet that Corey & co didn't give Eloy any margin for negotiation on being able to do this last tour with Sepultura.
I'm sure Eloy will have a healthy relationship with the Slipknot crew
| | | nooooooooo i wanted to see sepultura on the farewell tour, its a lot less epic without casagrande
| | | When Igor left they should've changed the name of the band. They would be avoiding all this and maybe more people would've listened with a more open mind. Because Sepultura doesn't exist without Cavaleras. That would've set realistic expectations for all albums post Cavaleras exits.
Unfortunately they diluted the band's significance. And i think wasted Derricks potential too. (Met the guy, what a sweet, great dude he is).
Now, going on tour with a band on the verge of not existing anymore or going with Slipknot, Eloy is right to go for the big leagues. Even if Slipknot is on shaky ground too. At least he'll have the opportunity to write for a new album or two.
| | | Makes sense, dude was on release notice in a dying company and was successful on a selection process on a big multinational company. i'd take that job as well
| | | slipultera
| | | They need to stop this circus. Sepulture had a couple of good albums with Greene after Max left and then everything went downhill.
| | | @Puly Idk, a downward trend was probably coming either way. It's not like Soulfly ever blew Sepultura's concurrent work out of the water.
| | | Isn't Nekrutman a jazz guy?
| | | You don't think jazz drummers can do metal?
| | | I saw sepultra last year and eloy stole the show. Tremendous loss for the band
