R.I.P. Charlie Dominici 2023-11-17 by Brendan Schroer STAFF | 15 Comments | Charlie Dominici, best known for his brief stint in American prog metal group Dream Theater, has passed away at the age of 72. A cause of death has yet to be revealed.
Dream Theater have issued the following statement on their social media pages:
"We are devastated to hear the news of the passing of former Dream Theater singer, Charlie Dominici. Charlie was the voice of DT on our debut album, 'When Dream And Day Unite’, recorded back in 1988. Beyond being a great singer, he was an incredibly talented songwriter, a well-rounded musician on both guitar and keyboards, and a long-time friend even after his departure from the band. Charlie’s unexpected passing is a tremendous loss to everyone in the Dream Theater family, and we wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the Dominici family during this immensely difficult time."
Dominici was the vocalist for the band's 1989 debut album When Dream and Day Unite, before amicably parting ways with the group for a variety of reasons. Aside from his time in Dream Theater, he was also known for his self-titled project Dominici, with which he wrote and recorded the O3 trilogy of concept albums. Things would come full circle in 2007, when Dominici opened for Dream Theater during their Chaos in Motion tour.

Huge RIP. The O3 albums are incredibly underrated imo, especially part 2 and 3

| | | RIP to a real one, When Dream and Day Unite was a fun record, O3 trilogy was also rock solid and even his former bandmates praised him as a talent who just as the wrong place at the wrong time.
| | | RIP, he gave Dream Theater a good head start.
| | | Didn't know he had his own stuff, though I always thought Dream and Day was underrated. RIP
| | | When dream and day unite was by far the best DT album.
| | | Third, pretty easily
| | | RIP, only just started getting into his solo stuff but it's pretty damn solid. When Dream and Day Unite is definitely an underrated DT album too.

dream and day unite is and will forever be a classic work of art

| | | When Dream and Day Unite sung on 6 March 2004 as a guest with Dream Theater in Los Angeles, I still recall with great fondness. The earlier Majesty and 'Status Seeker / Ytse Jam' hardly anyone directly associates with him these days, and yet he could be heard there too.
| | | Oh man, I've always loved his performance on WDADU. It's been a while, it might be time to listen again in memory of him.
