Review Summary: Papa Roach is back. So why is Jacoby stiil carrying the songs?

The bad boys of rock are back with another great album! This time around, the guys in Papa Roach have decided to go a little less hard core than their last release, 2004's "Getting away with Murder". What one good question is, is that will this aleinate the fans of their past releases? Well, I'll guess we'll find out.

I will be doing a track by track review, as that i am new to this.

01. ...To Be Loved. The lead single off the album, and i am glad to say that the rapping is back. If only very briefly. The song starts off with a rapped verse about respecting something, then explodes into a Pop/Punk chorus of Woooaaah's. Kind of confusing to say at the least. But it works as a song, so i give it a 8.95 out of 10

02. Alive('N Out of Control). Probably the second heaviest song on the Album. I really dig the Guitar riffing in this on. The chorus sounds like what the title suggests. 8/10

03. Crash. A good song, but focuses on the same subject as the first two, which gets tiresome after a while. THe guitar solo thing in the middle could have been better. 7/10

04. The World Around You. This is handsdown the best song on the Album. Has the best guitar parts, and jacoby shows his full range, including the scream that made him famous. Definetely a 10/10

05. Forever. THis song has the best lyrics on the entire CD. And the guitar riff leading into the chorus is enough reason to buy this album. NOW! 9/10

06. I Devise My Own Demise. The heaviest song on the album. The title is a slightly annoying cliche, but it works fine in the song. Again Jacoby's vocals carry the entire thing. 9/10

07. Time Is Rumming Out. THis is probably the worst song on the album. Its an okay song but the Wooaahs get annoying, and people aren't used to hearing acoustic guitar in Papa Roach songs. THis gets a 6/10

08. What do you do? Great song. Drags on a little bit, so it gets a little tedious, but he bridge makes up for it. The vocals carry the song again. 8/10

09. My Heart is A Fist. Beside the fact of having the worst title on the CD, the song is really quite good. The bridge is pretty climatic, and makes you want to sing along with it. 9/10

10. No More Secrets. A nice fast paced song, that could be a single, but the stlye is really off what Papa Roach was shooting for. It kind of sounds like it was stolen from a '80's hair metal band. Could have used a Guitar solo too. 8/10

11.Reckless. This song is a disgrace to the album. No metal band should be allowed to go country, as Poison demonstrated in the 80's. 5/10

12. The Fire. Okay song, which could have been done better. Sonds kind of too artsy for me.7/10

13. Roses on my Grave. A pleasant song with a nice touch of orchestra. a 9/10

Overall, a pretty good album. The bright spots are only in the beginning though, and seem to end with "Forever"

Pros
Great Music
"The World Around You"
Great Vocals

Cons
"Reckless"
The Wooaaahs.

Not bad for a first review, needs some work though. As most people who start with writing track by track reviews you tend to be a lot more descriptive in the first song and gradually lose more and more detail as you approach the end of the CD. I can understand if this is an album where many of the songs are similar (i'm guessing this is being Papa Roach) that it is difficult to flesh out a t-b-t without the writing becoming tedious, in that case I would try writing a review describing the album more as a whole.

I've never listened to Papa Roach apart from 3-4 songs, they appeared very generic nu-metal to me so I never looked further. I know a lot of people who like them though.

definitely a guilty pleasure album for me.

i disagree with almost all of your opinions, especially Time is Running Out. i just like singing along to it.

also, try not to describe a track by yelling at it like a dog (case in point: Reckless - No! Bad Papa Roach!)

He'll get to it, probably a bad idea to keep asking him on random threads.
