I don’t speak that well English, so there can be some mistakes in my language. But I hope you understand what I write!
This is my very first review, so enjoy or…..puke…!
Artist: The Haunted
Album: rEVOLVEr limited edition, (including 2 more tracks and a different artwork)
Year: 2004
“rEVOLVEr” is The Haunted’s fourth studio album. Since their last album “One Kill Wonder” the Sweedish band had changed back to their former front singer, Peter Dolving. Which I, personally, can’t blame them.
The band line-up is:
Anders Björler - Guitar
Jensen – Guitar
Peter Dolving - Vocals
Jonas Björler – Bass guitar
Per Möller Jensen(yibii, a Dane!) - Drums
1. No Compromise: After a little intro, with some bass and a little mingle on drums, the first track kicks off. From the first second it lays the “pillars” of the rest of the album. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a ***ing thrash-metal band…. Well, it’s pretty fast.
Peter Dolving is screaming for his life, while the band is pumping!
2. 99: Is, immediate, a little slower than No Compromise but absolute not bad at that reason. A really nice track.
“Ninety nine, ninety nine knives
Ninety nine knives inside”
3. Abysmal: Starts out very slowly, with two small verses with just guitar, and later a little drums in second verse. But then it suddenly becomes a heavy-monster. Again not so fast, but a rather cool song, I think. This is probably the first example on the album, where you hear a lot of guitar soloing. At last it ends where it begun, with a little guitar-melody with some clean singing from Peter Dolving.
“Bury me in a shallow grave
So the dogs can dig me out
If I die tonight, well that suits me fine
‘Cause I’d be better off covered in lye”
4. Sabotage: Starts out with some radio-talk or something, for later to show the meaning of haste. The track is the shortest, on the album.
5. All Against All: Pretty much the track that inspired me to buy the album. This is a pretty good song, again not a super fast track, but with Peter screaming his lungs out it’s a pretty cool single. Very cool text!...a pretty angry song….!
“I’m so sick and tired of it. Threat me like meat
Tear me to pieces and feed the dogs
A thousand polite tiny lines
And I memorised every single one of them
Did you think for a second I’d give you a taste?
I’m sorry to say: (No way!)
You could turn yourself inside out –I’d still walk away”
6. Sweet Relief: The most of this song is pretty fast. A nice song, maybe not the best song on the album, but pretty nice although.
“Like a Japanese girl with a taste of absurdity
Roped up and screaming for more!”
7. Burnt To A Shell: Like Abysmal, this one starts out slow too. But soon it turns into a really nice metal track, where Peter really screams for his life. Both the verses are slow but the stuff in between is not slow at all…
8. Who Will Decide: This track features Lou Keller from Sick Of It All. It sounds a little like punk in the beginning, but it doesn’t really last long before its pure metal.
9. Nothing Right: This is my opinion, not so strong a track. On the album it seems a little unimportant. It’s actually not a bad track, but it doesn’t really have what it takes.
10. Liquid Burns: A fast track, with a little growling, I think. I don’t have so much on this track… Well’ it’s about whiskey!
11. Fire Alive(Only on the limited edition): Not a typical The Haunted riff starts out the song and continues throughout the verses. I think, the riff sounds a little like some Black Sabbath stuff, actually a little like Children Of The Grave, I think! A cool track, I like it!
12. Smut King(Only on the limited edition): Again a pretty fast track, at last it turns into some slower stuff. An OK track, maybe a little strange track, but OK.
13. My Shadow: A slow track, where Peter sings clean and talks. There are only a few lines where he screams. It’s a fine outro for the album, but really nothing else… There is some cool soloing in it… I would say that it‘s a fine outro for the album, but not a fantastic track. If you know what I mean…
It’s a very nice album, I like it.
If you like fast thrash anno 2000+ this is almost a ‘must have’ album. Give them a try, it’s a cool album with some pretty absurd lyrics, as you maybe have seen on the examples I have given you.
Enjoy!
