Review Summary: KiD CuDi is the modern day Elvis Presley
Okay, so I'm zooted and trying to decide whether or not I should write a ***ty little review on Jonsi's new album (I've gotten a few requests for that..ahh the pressure!) or something that I have been listening to almost nonstop for the past few weeks. I decided to go with the latter... so without further ado......
Read the summary. Yeah, you read that right, I compared KiD CuDi to The King. Before you go and cry about how KiD CuDi sucks and blah blah blah, you need to hear me out.
Elvis took "black" music (gospel, blues) and put his "white" spin on it, thus creating his style of music which, in turn helped to create rock n roll. His whole reason for doing this was to bring black music to a white audience, and obviously it worked.. very well.
So.... how does this have ANYTHING to do with KiD CuDi? Let me tell you: KiD CuDi is doing the exact opposite and bringing "white" music to a black audience.
When you listen to hip hop on the radio, what do you usually hear? Lots of talk about how my dick is bigger than yours, I got a big ass gun that will *** you up, I *** a HELL of a lot of bitches, and I'M MOTHER***ING RICH! That *** is old and tired.
Bring in KiD CuDi. Most of his songs on this album are all about heartbreak, feeling ***ty about life even though he's rich, taking drugs so he can run away from his problems etc etc. His beats are catchy, spacey with a hint of techno but mostly, they're melancholy and almost creepy at times. Here, check out these two lines from Soundtrack 2 My Life:
"I'm super paranoid like a sixth sense,
Since my father died I ain't been right since,
...
So now I'm in the cut, alcohol in the wound,
My hearts an open sore that I hope heals soon,
I live in a cocoon opposite of Cancun,
Where it is never sunny the dark side of the moon, "
I mean, its sad and rappers aren't allowed to be sad. Its a sign on weakness and who likes a weak rapper?? I guess I do. And I believe that Cudder is about to change the game and turn the entire rap game into emos.. something that Kanye couldn't do with his 808s & Heartbreak album.
