Those of you reading this review have probably not heard of the prozacs. They are from Springfield, MA and been around a few years. They use the basic, fast 3 chords of the Ramones, catchy guitar hooks and awesome lyrics to sound like a cool, catchy punk rock band. I have seen them live too and they are amazing. I seriously suggest you try to pick up this cd. Most stores like sam goody, fye, etc will special order if you pay shipping and handling. Note—there are two vocalists on this album. The lead one is singing on the songs where I don’t mention that the secondary one is singing.
Doing Nothing(4/5)-And the listener is introduced to the band. One of the fastest songs on the album with cool lyrics many people can relate to. Nice use of hook in the middle. Also one of the shortest songs on the album.
Give Me The Prozac(5/5)-This is one of those songs that will stay in your head all day. The chorus is simple enough “Cause youre a bore bore bore bore bore I don’t want this anymore” but works well with the song. Cool but simple enough drum intro. One of the albums best.
Do You Hate Yourself Yet(3/5)-The other vocalist sings this one. A good lyrical idea about how companies exploit young people. But there is nothing that makes this song special except for the guitar riff at the beginning. This vocalist is not as good and cant do melodies as well.
Empty Without You(4/5)-Starts off with what sounds like a live clip then bursts into another fast song. Lyrics sound very emo but after reading the lyrics the song is about a bag of candy (has some funny moments)and not a girl. This is one of the songs you can download on their purevolume site.
Dance With Me(2.5)-Fast hard hitting but again the other vocalist lets it down. Also this song can get a little repetitive.
Double Feature(5/5)This is probably the best song on the cd. Starts off with the classic 1-2-3-4 ramones/clash/sex pistols startup. The chorus and verses are both catchy as hell and work well to make a great song.
Friday Night(3.75/5)Good hard hitting song. The secondary vocalists best performance. Lyrics everyone can relate to. Chorus is simple but effective. But it doesn’t have the x factor to make it awesome.
Get Away-(3/5)-This one sounds the same as some of the other stuff but is still effective. This is probably the simplest song lyrically and musically on the album. Can get repetitive after a few listens.
1.33-1(1/5)-Hands down the worst song on the album. The combo of the secondary vocalist and the boringness of the song make it horrible. This is the only track I skip when listening.
Prom Night(5/5)-Ultra catchy song about wanting to take a girl to the prom(hence the title). Combines some seriousness and jokes and makes a cool song. Very good instrumental outro too. Another one that will get stuck in your head all day.
Go Kart-(3.5/5)-The fastest song on the album. Breakneck speed that is over 220 beats per minute. Chorus is catchy but again a bit repetitive. Hard for vocals to fit in all the words.
Clone(3/5)-Another average song but good lyrics about not doing what the mtv, preps, trendy people tell you to. The chorus of “I wanna be a mindless clone” sums up the idea of the whole song. But again nothing special about it.
Say It Anyway(4.5/5)-The final song again is dissing the mtv generation and refers to “playing with your lame ass bands” which sums up a lot of the mtv music. The final line of the song “you Abercrombie f*cks you know who you are and if you don’t that proves my point” sums up the song which I happen to agree with but to each his own.
Seriously, if you like punk, punk rock, or alternative give them a listen. If you live anywhere near Hartford, CT, they are playing a show on Oct 28, 2005 opening for the Misfits at the Webster Theatre. Check them out.
