Review Summary: Metal you can dance to, sing along with, but canblessed by a broken heart be proud of it?
Blessed By A Broken Heart show a sense of fun with Pedal To The Metal. Its metal but different and not quite what every 'metaller' would be hoping for (or even like) but with metal like this it will still get you moving, albeit in a different way.
Blessed By A Broken Heart give many pop influences a fair go with tracks such as 'Move Your Body' a very dance orientated track has a solid beat and inspires everybody to 'move thier body'. I cant help but feel BBABH appeal to a younger audience with thier lyrical content with lines such as 'schools out now its time to party' and wouldn't be surprised to hear this being played at a school disco.
To say Blessed By A Broken Heart's writing style is poor would not be correct, for what they are they are catchy and consistant but tracks do tend to blend together and the stand-out tracks stop coming, this kind of standard can be expected from a younger band and writing style and quality 'should' improve album by album.
The question with Pedal To The Metal is not whether its a quality metal album but whether its an album of quality value, the production certainly sounds quality, the content will attract listeners and the band is full of energy which should attract crouds to performances, what remains to be seen however is growth from one transition to the next. Blessed By A Broken Heart seem to be shunned for trying something different even when the metalcore masses are screaming for something else, and there catchy, disco like sound is wonderful to those who want to lighten the mood. There are some stand-outs of the album including before mentioned 'move your body' but there is also 'Carry On' a slightly darker, heavier song on the album which carries less of the dance feel than the other tracks on the album.
Blessed By A Broken Heart show potential, but at the same time little room for growth or development without stepping out of the dance themed music they are producing. They present a fast paced, dance themed metal album and would be interesting to see live. BBABH are an interesting if slightly unusual metal group, a definite check out for something different.
