Exodus – Impact Is Imminent
Album Information
From my point of view I think this is one of Exodus better achivements, both in vocals and the instrumental part. The sound is still very ¨thrashy¨ but there is more heavy riffing and more catchy rhythm-sections. Steve’s vocals is slightly improved but it feels like you are about to loose your breath while you listen to some songs otherwise his vocals is somewhat unique. Drummer John Tempesta is included on this album and he has also played in bands like Testament and Rob Zombie.
The Line Up
Steve Souza – vocals
Gary Holt – guitars
Rick Honult – guitars
Rob McKillop – bass
John Tempesta – drums
Track Information
Impact Is Imminent
Terrible track, starts with voices talking from radios and you can here a car-crash in the back ground and a man counting down. The song starts of with a catchy riff but the rest of the song is terrible, the guitars is boring and the vocals is fast and does not fit to the instruments. The solo is also a disapointment, it might be a skilled and complex solo but it is far from melodic and sounds more like noices. 2/5
A.W.O.L
Very good and catchy riffing which is heard throughout the whole song. The verse sections sounds stressed and the fast vocals is included. Otherwise the song is good with its rhythms but the solo is almost the same as in the first song, complexed but not as ¨noicy¨. 4/5
The Lunetic Parade
A medium fast and heavy song but it doesn’t sound interesting for the listener. The would have been better if the guitars played in the same pace in the verses. Good soloing in this song but not a stand out song. 3.5/5
Within The Walls Of Chaos
One of the longest songs (7:44), fast and scratchy guitars, good structure but the unregular guitar playing is just boring to listen to. The song becomes a bit slower after five minutes and it becomes more heavier than the original pace. 3/5
Objection Overruled
This song reminds quite much of their song ¨Verbal Razors¨, the song is fast both in instruments and vocals. A catchy song with song of the albums best solos and is one of the albums stand out songs. 4.5/5
Only Death Decides
This songs screams metal! The rhythm guitars sounds raw and brutal and has a very catchy tune. The song is in a medium tempo and the lyrics is about death which decides where you will go, depending on what you have done in your life. In this case the ¨person¨ has done some of the worst deeds and actions that exist today. The best song of the album! 5/5
Heads They Win (Tails You Loose)
An average song, but it sounds more like an forever repeating intro. The song seems not to find a grip and stay on its course, it repeats itself but the melody is good and the song sounds yet powerful. 3/5
Changing Of The Guard
Starts with annoying guitar sounds along with the drums. The song is heavy and it sounds strong, the only thing the makes the rating low is the wierd guitar sounds. Good solo and good structure but the vocals may be hard to get used to if you haven’t heard this band before. 4/5
Thrash Under Pressure
The headline for the song speaks for itself, the song is almost exactly as the headline. The song sounds very stressed, like Metallica’s Sad But True is you increase the tempo rate of the song. 2.5/5
I wrote before that this was in my opinion one of there best albums and you may see the ratings I have given the tracks but there are some tracks here which is really good. I can recommend songs like Only Death Decides and Objection Overruled, I always get tired to listen to these over the top drumming songs and I think that destroys the songs pretty much.
But thrash is considered to be fast and I guess everyone has their own taste but this is what I think of this album so please send comments if something is wrong. Anyway I will give this album this rating: 4/5
