Review Summary: The Last Thing You Forget stands out in the crowd of today's pop punk with it's passion filled music, vocals, and lyrics.
Taking influence from bands such as
Kid Dynamite,
Polar Bear Club, and
Sunny Day Real Estate, Title Fight play fast and passion filled pop-punk that sounds like a throwback to the 90’s post hardcore and emo scene.
Title Fight are a band that stick out in today’s pop punk scene. Unlike most modern pop punk, Title Fight’s sound is full of raw emotion yet contains the youthful energy that you would expect from a pop punk band. They are strongly hardcore influenced, but do not put random breakdowns in the middle of their song like many of their peers. Instead, they use hardcore drumming in many songs, and use harsh vocals to achieve a heavy, yet catchy and melodic sound.
The Last Thing You Forget is full of catchy guitar parts, intense drumming, and excellent dual clean and harsh vocals. Both guitarists work together to create both sad sounding melodies and fast punk chord progressions that go together perfectly with the fast and intense hardcore punk drumming. However, the high point of the album is the dual vocal assault of harsh and clean vocals. You’ll find yourself wanting to yell along with the passion strained harsh vocals in songs like “Symmetry” and “Goldwaite” and you’ll be singing along with the fantastically sung clean vocal parts all throughout the album.
One of the best parts of The Last Thing You Forget are the lyrics. The lyrics that Title Fight write are very deep, but almost anyone can relate to them. They sing about things such as relationships without sounding whiny, which is a problem with a lot of bands today. For example, a part of the lyrics from “Memorial Field”
“ It was quiet while we walked through Kingston.
Hand in hand, the streetlights led us to where you lived.
We were alone and all you could say was
All good things must come to an end.”
Whether you’re a teenager, or you remember your days of teenage angst, you can relate to the passionate lyrics that Title Fight put into their songs. Overall, Title Fight’s passion and emotion that they put into their music, vocals, and lyrics is what sets them apart from all the pop punk bands out there, and what makes them such a great band.
