Review Summary: The review below tells of an epic record by an epic band!
To start out. The album's from the 70's were great. Good riffs. Good drum parts. Good basslines. The singing was kind of off. But it was totally fine. Geddy quoted that they ran away from Hemispheres. The high-pitched singing halted, more extreme catchy riffs, and the songs were just more self-explanatory. The Spirit of Radio became. And there you had, Permanent Waves. What could I say about this record. Catchy, lyrics are great (Neil is a great lyrictist), and the riffs are better. Keyboard got a bigger part in the 80's, which is fine with me. Makes it sound a little bit better, but Rush lost some fans because of that. Which I think their fan-loss blew. It's just keyboard. Seriously. But I wouldn't disrespect this. No... of course not. We have some great stuff here. Geddy, Alex, and Neil are like phenomenal musicians. Their playing just drags you with the music. Which is the main purpose of RUSH, in my point of view. Probably for everyone else to. I'd agree, totally. Now lets get on to the songs and what I enjoy about them.
1.The Spirit of Radio (4:57)
I don't know. Does this deserve one of their biggest hits?Of course! The riff is awesome. The lyrics are great. Singing is definitely not off. Bass is perfect, but hard to here. That's just rock. And the drumming is perfect! God I love this song! 5/5
2. Freewill (5:24)
Another great song! Gosh so many good songs! The riff is socatchy you will not dare to hit the skip button.
I forgot if this got radio play. I think it did. Perfect! I love this song. So driving. 5/5
3. Jacob's Ladder (7:26)
Like, one of Rush's best songs. The keyboard is outstanding. The riff is awesome. The drumming is quite quiet but I still like it. GOD I am so dissapointed they don't play this live anymore! They seriously should continue that. But it was better on Exit...Stage Left. The keyboard was even more outstanding. Wow. 5/5
4. Entre Nous (4:36)
I love the keyboard on this song. The gutair... not so much. Compared to how much keyboard this is. It makes the gutair kind of dull. But I can accept that. Drumming is not "crazy" but it is just right for Rush. 4/5
5. Different Strings (3:48)
The slowest and shortest. Not their best here. But it is great! But not the best. I wouldn't say, "OOH EM GEE, THIS SONG IS SOOO KICKA**!". No.. not at all. Just let it be. It's a good song. But not awesome 3.5/5
6. Natural Science (9:17)
This is the longest piece on this record. Not much to say. But this song is great! I love it. The keyboard, gutair, and drumming is amazing. Don't you dare skip. 4/5
You know RUSH has always been slightly dorky. But they make bad*** music I can't stand to miss. If you miss RUSH your an idiot. Seriously. That goes for you Counrty Fans! What is wrong with you?! Rush is so great. They are amazing musicians. They top a lot of people. Influenced lots to. Can't wait for new upcoming albums! The 80's was Keyboard Rush. Until they kind of stopped all of that. But hey, they still make great music!
