Review Summary: Daisy? I threw this away after a day, see.

I love pop-punk. And I hate bad vocals. So what happens when you combine something I love with something I hate. Well, you make me hate that something that I love. And thats the best way to describe Brand New's brand new album Daisy (yeah right). It has plenty of catchy songs to make me love it but I really can't stand the vocals on it. Evidenced by older albums, Brand New and their singer Jesse Lacey (as well as their many many backup vocals) would get way better vocally but on this one its just a pain to listen to from the front to the back!

The album starts off with Vices which is probably the worst song on the album. It suffers from most of the problems (bad vocals and poor producion) as the rest of the album but this one isn't even all that well written or catchy. Not a good way to start the album but luckily Bed brings things up just a little bit with some catchy guitar and a cool vocal part at the end. That's another thing I don't like about the album; every single song is too dissosant! I mean I like a good harsh tone as much as the next guy but this is ridiculously too far. The vocals stay pretty consistantly bad the whole album through. Its weird that they're so bad because certain parts are really obviously overdubbed a million times because Jesse's voice sounds way too strong.

Thats not to say it's that bad of an album though. If Jesse from Deja Entendu (a much MUCH superior album) and the guys re-recorded this album it would have been great. Because other than the annoying vocals and the repetitive structures the songs are written very well. The lyrics are usually pretty good even if they are a little dramatic sometimes. They are often treated like sister bands with Taking Back Sunday and I could see how you might think that. But if Deja Entendu is Brand New's Tell All Your Friends (a pop punk masterpiece) then Daisy is Brand News' Louder Now, a loud clunky mess with too much repetition and annoying vocals.

Just a few problems here:

This review doesn't read like a 1, the album is not pop-punk and the vocals don't suck.

you need to understand and get over the fact that brand new are NOT pop punk. you keep knocking them for not being good pop punk but it isnt pop punk! its like trashing the beatles because there isnt enough rap! if youre not into (post)hardcore music then fair enough but dont expect to be able to give a fair and respected critical review of an album when you dont even like the genre its a part of.

Your rating says exactly that.

That's another thing I don't like about the album; every single song is too dissosant!

"Bed," "At The Bottom," "You Stole," and a grip of others are pretty melodic. "Vices" is the hardest song on here by far.
