Review Summary: Some of the best riffage,drumming and poetic lyrics.Its metal from the party philosophers
The boys from Buffalo are back with what I can say is one of the most important albums of my life which is Ex Lives.The usual magic is there,Keith on vocals and as usual tastefully poetic lyrics as always.Jordan and Andy on what must be twin lead guitars because its pure panther fighting and venom dripping chaos that I have come to love and always expect.There a new kid on drums who completely destroys with his mammoth hunting drumming.The bass as always for me in ETID is nothing special so I won't comment on it much.From the tracklist and a listen of a few tracks you will immediately understand why the album is named Ex Lives.There is a hint of regret and a touch of positive resolve.Could it be that the boys from Buffalo have come to discover that the Rockstar life or the Party life they have lived and enjoyed has now left them in regret?
The most popular track Underwater bimbos from outer space deserves all the popularity for it is brilliant instrumentally and lyrically.Its starts off with what sounds like a bunch pirahnas devouring a guitar in unison with some killer drumming as Buckley shouts the lyric I WANT TO BE DEAD WITH MY FRIENDS!(which is the same thing I shout before I pour tobasco all over my freakin eyes coz its so intense!)and later AS THE IRON SHARPENS THE IRON.Put the volume to max and your senses will be decimated by the pure melody
A few of my favourites include;
1.Drag King-Starts off with velociraptors fighting for a piece of bacon before they get stomped on by a mammoth high on PCP.In the middle Buckley stops a tornado with his microphone and then the songs gets calm and cool and melodious(this is probably how the ice age happened) before ending with some smooth power chords
2.Revival Mode-Starts off pretty ordinary until the dude from Danzig comes in and just blows your mind with an out of this world guitar solo that does not overpower the rest of the instruments or the vocals.How he got that thing to sound like a harmonica from the delta I don't know
3.Touch Yourself-No ***ing around just riffage
4.The low road has no exits-This is what space ships would sound like if they run on diesel.Wherever they go there too shall be grief!!!
There other songs I would have to say I am already bored of but the above 5 are daily listens for me and hate em or love em ETID will always have positive reviews.Hot Damn! was a good album and although some of ETID older listeners have just refused to let it go comparing every ETID album to Hot Damn! just won't cut it
