I can still remember the first time I heard this record close to a year ago. My brother had been telling me to listen to this band, they had excellent guitar players and a great drummer. So after weeks and weeks of him practically begging me to listen I finally threw this into my computer to see what all the fuss was about. The second I heard the opening riff to Laid to Rest I was hooked. Marc Morton and Willie Adler were absolutely devastating on guitar, their lead playing was incredible, so fast and yet so technical. Chris Adler was a god in my opinion, I had no idea double bass could be used like him with constant 16th notes and triplets and doubles blended in. Randy Blythe had one of the most horrifying screams on the this album, either the low growl used to often as on One Gun and most of the album, to the high shrieks used at select moments like during the outro scream of Ashes Of The Wake in Hourglass or during the chorus of the limited edition bonus track An Extra Nail For Your Coffin. While not heard for the most part of the album John Campbell grooves his way up and down the fret board in every song and really adds to the rhythm section. I couldn't believe that it took me so long to hear them. While some may complain of this being overproduced, I find it to be perfectly produced, much better then on New American Gospel, or even As the Palaces Burn. So if you want a hard hitting almost orgasmic listen you best check out Lamb of God's newest studio album, Ashes of the Wake.
I'm with you guys on this one. I've been hooked on Lamb of God lately, and this has really grown on me. Laid to Rest, Hourglass, and Blood of the Scribe are some top-notch riff-fests.
