Review Summary: AC/DC did successful on sales and charts at this time, but the music was sure not.
1976 was a great year for AC/DC. Their American debut
High Voltage helped them get famous and months later came
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap which reached #3 in the Billboard 200 and sold 6 million copies worldwide.
Despite of all the success of this album, it is actually uninspired. I'm talking about
Rocker, because AC/DC can't pull off fast songs and is done different live,
There's Gonna Be Some Rockin', which is like
Rocker except mid-tempo and very forgettable, and then there's
Big Balls which is fun at first but turns out to be stupid (even though it was stupid to begin with) and annoying.
Though these next songs are good, but not the best ever.
Love at First Feel has stupid lyrics because it is about having a one-night-stand with a stranger and there are better song from them about women/sex.
Problem Child is too repetitive and long especially the chorus is used WAY too much making it uninteresting.
For this whole time it seems like I gave this a lot of criticism, but there are gems though such as
the title track with clever lyrics, catchy chorus, awesome solo, and an excellent snarl by Bon, and the last three songs
Ain't No Fun (Waiting 'Round to Be a Millionaire), which is 7 minutes and drags and a bit generic, but still a great track nonetheless.
Ride On which is a ballad from these rockers done in a bluesy style completed with beautiful vocals from Bon and decent bass playing. It ends with the sleazy
Squealer which is often underrated, and the neat thing about the song is that Phil and Mark call the shots on the song with some of Mark's best bass playing in the band.
Unfortunately, the album doesn't have much gems. We will see a huge improvement on the next album
Let There Be Rock.
+The title track and the last three songs save the album from being poor
+
Ride On and
Squealer has great bass playing from Mark
-The middle section of the album feels uninspired
-Flat production
-Not many gems to be found like other albums (aside from the recommendations below)
