Review Summary: Don't do drugs kids

Oh Korn. The band who had probably lit fire under almost every teenage kids ass. If you were growing up in the nineties, were emo or semi-depressed, or were just a child looking to rebel and not listen to mom or dad, you probably had listened to Korn. JD's brutally honest lyrics had every single parent of these children probably as mad as the kid was when they took the album away, said that this was pointless stupid ***, and grounded them. Oh the brutal life of a child anyways. What parents didn't realize is that all of these lyrics that he has wrote were something that actually did happen, and as much as they wanted to try to shelter them from all of the ***ed up things that are happened in this world, you won't be able to forever. As said in 'Divine' from Korn's Self Titled debut album, "you think I'm out to scare you, I'm only out to prepare you". Korn was simply trying to make people aware of the ***ed up *** that goes on, and sparked the perfect rebellion. They didn't care if people found these lyrics 'stupid', 'not appropriate', or 'childish'. Korn's first album was JD's cry for help album. Life Is Peachy, however, was more of a '*** you, I'm famous and I can tell you what the *** I want, and if you don't like it, *** off" album. Its passionate, yet raw songs deliver a punch to the teeth, and the punch gets harder every song in.

The album starts off with 'Twist', which was actually a song written before the first album was out, although people try to pick out actual lyrics to this song, nobody will actually know if JD is really even saying anything at all, so I would stop trying to make words out of it. Then it immediately cuts to 'Chi', which is the first real punch in the teeth. From the chorus, "sick of the same old thing, so I dig a hole, bury pain" reminisces back to JD's past. He's sick of the same bad *** happening to him, and he is trying to find a way to bury the pain, so he turns to drugs. Drugs will make you feel like God for an unholy night, but you wake up with the same pain you had yesterday, and he is just wondering if anybody really even notices how much pain he really is in. 'Lost', 'Swallow' and 'Porno Creep' are more temporary breaks, taking you through smaller issues and more drug use. 'Porno Creep' doesn't really display any lyrics, just a creepy interlude that leads us into the next punch 'Good God'. Korn picks up the pace again, and it never slows down, imagine millions of kids screaming with this song as Jonathan repetitively screams "WHY DONT YOU GET THE *** OUT MY FACE NOW!" This song could have easily started a riot, as Korn clearly is done and ready to *** up all of the people that had taken advantage of them. The next song 'Mr. Rodgers' takes you into a really personal trip when JD was high on speed, talking about how he had been amazed with a show that had subconsciously taught kids wrong, and almost perverted values. It is probably the best structured song in this album, and is my personal favorite from the album. We get to 'KUNT', and cunt is actually spelt with a c, but so is Korn, so whatever. 'Kunt' bashes every single dumb slut out there who open their legs for just about anyone. 'No Place To Hide' talks about JD's anxiety issues in the sudden wake of Korn's success. 'Wicked' an Ice Cube cover that was actually done pretty nicely in my opinion, although I heard this version first, so I am used to it sounding like this. 'A.D.I.D.A.S' was the third great punch of the album. The "All Day I Dream About Sex" anthem is probably by far the most catchy song in Korn's history, and had probably gotten most kids into porn. The message is more of a clear message not to do so, but it easily gets misinterpreted, since people tend to listen to the song without looking at the real meaning first. 'Lowrider' and 'Ass Itch' sound more like fillers to make the album longer rather than songs I would put on repeat all day, and I usually skip over them to the final knock out punch 'Kill You'. Going back to the childhood days again, as JD's step mom made his life a living hell, he had dreamed every night of killing her, and he makes it very evident that he had plans to do so. The song almost drives JD to tears before he takes a deep breath and says 'How can I cry over something I never loved?' Although we hope that no child had killed their abusive parent because this song inspires them, you should feel that they should die in vein.

So here we are. Grounded, but knowing at least what JD was trying to say to us. Just remember, knowledge is true power, and even the most gruesome things this Earth has to offer needs to be known. Korn's 'Life Is Peachy' sends us that message in its almost ***ed up, chopped and screwed way, and have made everybody know that abuse, and bullying is real. It needs to be stopped. Never have I heard any band take what lots of people may call 'senseless ***' as deep as Korn has, and 20 years later, they are still spreading the message. If you are still a fan like me, I recommend listening to 'Hater'. Its less brutal and raw and more produced, but is still the same message, and is just as powerful.

This is my first review, feel free to criticize my work. Make it constructive, for I want to improve in writing music reviews.

I was going to just say this review is bad and leave, but your final sentence changed my mind so here's what I think:

First, swearing in a review is generally a no no, and for effect it can sometimes be useful, but dude you went overboard, seems really 'unprofessional'.

Second, you focus waaaay too much on Jon and his lyrics and ignore the rest of the band. You're well versed in your knowledge of the band (mostly) but a lot of its irrelevant too, whereas the actual intrumentation should be the main focus of the review.

Third: there's a lot of comments here that made me quetion whether this was a joke review. Stuff like "had probably gotten most kids into porn" "Although we hope that no child had killed their abusive parent because this song inspires them, you should feel that they should die in vein". And that opening sentence too...

Fourth: there's plenty of mistakes, seems like not much effort was put into this and that you may not have read man reviews before writing this one to get some ideas of what a good one should look like.

So in summary: less expletives, talk more about the music, less about interpreting the lyrics and giving a back story, try not to follow a quasi- track by track style of reviewing, and tighten up your writing, happy reviewing and welcome to the site .

I really love Korn too, but you need to tighten up your writing style. Swearing is generally a no-no, and try to keep your paragraphs short and snappy.

Also, avoid just going through the album track by track and focus instead on your overall impression.

Totally agree with you about Hater, that song is pretty great.

This album is trash. It feels like they weren't even trying aside from a couple songs that are alright.

Album feels like S/T's B-sides.

Idk if I should speak about the review, though the one comment I'll make is that this reads like a 4.5/5 review and not a 3.0/5.
