Review Summary: I've made up my mind. I'll forever wait outside awake.

It's a glamour that slept. Slept under a pile of aging, fading fuzz. There's little to no sense of internal commodity, only craters. My body was never able to adjust to the curve, so I walked again. Facing different planes, different walls. Through and to, I had to scream. "Can you explain to me how you're so evil, now?" No. Don't even try me. "There's a hole in the earth. I'm out." Astronaut's bag, take me to space! I want to be one with the outer planes. This earth feels corrupt and I desperately need to phone home. "I hate all of my friends. I'm out." The peace I find in my pillow wrists astounds me. The amount of garbage I swallow astounds me. The rapture's come and I'm still sleeping under this aging, fading fuzz. "Kills it kills... life." "Like gunfire", I go out with a bang. I sing to all of you, I play your Ken... I play "pretend... really". This distant planet shows to be similar to my homeland. The water still drowns me like back home. But the current feels smoother. The flavor is sweeter. "I'll swim down." I'll finally find my peace in the undersea. "Wave after wave" I keep punching through. I keep pummeling the force flow. "And you drown." No matter how different the waves tasted...the death is still the same. Good on paper, good for you. Because "that way I'll always stay away from you..." I won't harm you anymore. The silence confounds me and it warms me, at once. I'm puzzled by the heat, where am I now? Why have you come for me? What did I possibly do to deserve this unnerving, pleasant wrath? You say: "Come on, they're calling your name...out." Who is they? I've seen not another body in days. Only terrifying waves, special grandiose and detriment. "Return to see everything looks the same." Every last corner looks as aged and dusk as when I left. "Safe, heaven, new..." I'll take my back the gun and blow myself away. "Now was it worth it? Worth it? Worth one ***ing thing?" Yes. "Everything is fine." -"Liar!" you said as your life goes 'blank tonight'. Waiting for me to "make up my mind." I've made up my mind. I'll forever wait outside awake. 'Goodbye'.

Deftones' "Saturday Night Wrist" is a slow bullet. When it first came out, I liked it at times and I hated it other times. The post-metal infused dream pop-ish sound wasn't doing it for me. But it kept growing and growing. The piercing of the bullet kept billowing until it became my all-time favorite release by the group. The darkness and the glow of this album; it's chiaroscuro-like phasing through the ears. From the somber melodies of tracks like "Riviere" or "Cherry Waves", to the heavy and churning pummel of tracks like "Rats! Rats! Rats!" to the dream-like glamour and battered-beauty of "Xerces" this is the band at their best. The pain, the lust, the want, the passion and release, it's all too breath-taking and all too surreal.

This is probably the most varied Deftones album. Loved the review too, pos.

I agree. It was recorded in various locations, so that probably had to do something with the sound variation.

beware is a great song, there's only so many ways you can make drowning someone sound beautiful and peaceful.

Good review, pos. I always thought that a 5 is too high tho.

Best Deftones and a nice review. I love every moment of this thing, not to mention Chi's bass goes so hard on this album. Cherry Waves and Konami Code are pure bliss.

The bass on this destroys, agreed. Oh and Konami code rules, yeah. It's one of those instrumentals that is ALWAYS in my head.
