Review
Probably the funkiest album that the Chili Peppers have made. George Clinton the master of Funk as a producer and former members of the band "Cliff Martinez" and "Hillel Slovak" joined together with recent members "Flea" and "Anthony Kiedis" and achieved a great funky album.
I would like to note that the album has been remasterd and a few demos and one full song called "Millionaires Against Hunger have been added to the original album. However, I will review only the songs that are on both the original and the remastered version.
Songs Review:
1. Jungleman - a great song based on bass. Flea uses a simple slapping riff that works well throughout the song. Anthony raps in his own funky style and create a nice mood to the song.
2. Hollywood(Africa) - a cover by the Chili Peppers of The Meters song "Africa" which was renamed by the band to Hollywood. Some may say that they like the original song better, but the band I believe changed it to its style and did a good job on it.
3. American Ghost Dance - Maybe one of the best songs in the album in my opnion. the song begins with a loud intro and turns into a funky bass verse.
4. If You Want Me To Stay - another cover by the Chili Peppers of the Sly Stone version of the song. The song begins with a simple bass intro that keeps playing throughout the song and gives you the rhytem. what I really like about the song was Anthony vocals who really made an effort to sound good at high voice and low voice.
5. Nevermind - the song begins with only vocals by Anthony and then burst into a funky grooving song that basicly tells you never mind anything except for the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
6. Freaky Styley - maybe one of the famous lyrics and a Chili Peppers song, "I'm freaky styley and I'm proud" which shows that the band are proud of themselves. the song is based on one slapping bass riff and have many expeiremental solos by Hillel on the guitar.
7. Blackeyed Blonde - the song starts with a funky drum beat and then burst into a really funky bass and guitar riff. the song shows the band humor that's for sure.
8. The Brothers Cup - the song starts with a really funky bass riff that the guitar follows and has a catchy chorus. Anthony sings in a few accents in this song and shows that he can sing high notes and low notes.
9. Battleship - the hardest/punkiest song on the album which has a fast slapping bass riff and a weird chorus although catchy. the song has a great solo by Hillel.
10. Lovin' And Touchin' - this is a short and slow song that Anthony wrote to his girl friend at the time.
11. Catholic School Girls Rule - after a slow song, the hit of the album comes with a fast bass riff and a catchy chorus.
12. Sex Rap - maybe the dirtiest song of the Chili Peppers that talks about... "Sex" ... basicly.
13. Thirty Dirty Birds - the weirdeist "song" in the album which honestly I have no idea what its about.
14. Yertle the Turtle - The best song on the album in my opinion which starts with maybe the greatest drum beat and has a great guitar riff combined with a wah wah effect.
