Review Summary: The “Obscura” of rap music
Take everything you know about “The Rising Tide” and forget about it. This album, released in 1999, is the “Gorguts” of hip-hop (technical and rewarding). These guys have a 18 track effort that really wastes no time at all. Maybe the track “Muuvon”, while not fitting the rest of the album, is a solid dance track on it’s own right. The song “Skullyanamayshun”, Tak starts off with his smooth as silk flow, leading off with Ryu with the hook and the second verse. Maybe “over the top” in technicality and flow, but makes a great rap song. This album is great as a whole and even the interludes don’t come off as wasted time. Honestly this is definitely a album for fans of “technical” “fast paced” hip-hop
Good-
- Tak and Ryu come with maybe the best flow combo is hip-hop history (Sorry OutKast)
- Great production
- Not much wasted in terms of filler
- Features give great performances too
- Ryu might give the best white rap preformance ever. (2nd place being MC Serch- Return of the Product and Eminem- The Eminem Show)
Bad-
- Muuvon doesn’t really fit the album too well
- The entire album is censored for some reason (not that big of a deal really)
- The production while good, could come off as a little overly diverse
Other-
- Mike Shinoda made the cover
- A dirty version never surfaced for some reason or another
Recommend tracks-
- Style Warz
- Skullyanamayshun
- Marco Polo
- Survival Tactics
