Review Summary: The album cover is memorable. The music not so much.
If you like this you like generic power metal. This is good stuff, and less cheesy than some albums. There’s soaring choruses, slick production, self-harmonized vocals, pretty much everything you need to sustain yourself in a dry desert if power metal is your water. However, the substance is lacking, and since you’re in a desert, there’s only so much substance to sustain sustenance substantially. I suspect such, but it will depend on what kind of power metal enthusiast you are. Do you shirk at glorious generic gaul or go greatfully? The choice is yours.
There’s some neato, funky riffs in here but once those tricks are used up the album looks like a novice magician. They can’t hypnotize you but at least they have some flashy tricks to entertain you the first time through. In other words, it’s like a good movie, but one you don’t care enough about to continue watching much in the future. It’s still enjoyable though, a completely solid album with no missteps like an excellent walker so there’s that. This could’ve been a lot worse, a power metal album with a lame sci-fi theme it may be - whatever - the music is not obnoxious.
This is more of an easygoing, casually entertaining album. Think of it as a light snack on a Sunday afternoon. You could do better, the singer isn’t particularly incredible, but the heavy, funky riffs can be catchy like well-timed farts and the songwriting is standard, but enjoyable enough to not bore. If you really think about it, listening to this is better than engaging in whatever religion you believe in because at least this singer talks to you unlike your god - in sing along melodies no less! This may not have the craziest anything, but it has smooth sounding songs that go down like buttered cake.
