HISTORY
Hypocrisy, on of Sweden's most proudest death-metal bands, they might not be so well-known by the general public but they have made a steady career for them selves. Formed in 1990 by the nearly death-metal god
Peter Tagtgren, the band was inspired by bands like
Morbid Angel and
Death among others. The band was focused on the more satanic themes at the beginning and later in their progress they focused more on alien themes like, abductions, experiments and stuff like that. The band started out as a group of five but the band suddenly was reduced to three members who released many albums until the band was a four man crew.
ALBUM INFORMATION
This is a little EP I found, this EP contains four tracks, both from past albums and albums which was about to come. The songs are both slow and atmospheric, and some are fast, heavy and extreme.
Roswell-47 and
Carved Up are the two songs who are fast, heavy and more extreme than the other two songs.
Request Denied and
Strange Ways are both demo recordings I believe, because of the somewhat bad production but they both still sounds great though.
THE BAND MEMBERS
This EP was recorded by the long time trio that contained frontman
Peter Tagtgren as the vocalist, guitarist and keyboard player,
Mikael Hedlund as bass player and
Lars Szoke as now former drummer. Their performences on this album are great, the intruments are clean, loud and precised. The vocals are changing between
Peter's ''normal'' vocals, deep growling and harsh, yell screaming. The guitars are very powerful and loud, the rhythm sections are solid rock, the lead guitar is nearly excellent and there is also melodic and calm acoustics here too. The bass is though not so audible but it follows the rhythms very good and it helps to build up the steady rhythm sections. The drumming is good, the patterns are catchy and very heavy in some of the tracks. But the drumming is though quite calm if you compare them to their previous work but these drums is not bad at all.
MY POSITIVE THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS EP
I'm a big fan of this death-metal band I enjoyed every song on this EP, songs like
Roswell-47 is very catchy and is nearly a classic to me, the song is heavy and the melodic elements makes so cool. The lyrics is about the alien crash and how the secret authority's who are trying to cover the whole incidented and later tries to develop secret new weapons and such. The track
Request Denied is a highly atmospheric song, this version is even better than the original track on their album
''The Final Chapter''. This was one of the best EP's I have listen to, I enjoyed every song but only two songs are my total favorites though.
MY NEGATIVE THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS EP
As I said before, I really enjoyed this EP but the things I didn't liked was just a few. One thing was that there was to few songs of course, every song was good but I think it could've better if there was maybe two or three more songs on this one. The track
Strange Ways contained some of
Peter's normal vocal style, very similar to the vocals he uses in his side-project
Pain, which is more directed towards the industrial genre. The song didn't feel like real
Hypocrsiy material becuase of the calm pace, the more hardrock based song structure and the calm vocals.
MY CONCLUSION
Well this litte EP was very good, most because I'm a big fa of
Hypocrisy but the EP displayed th band perfect when it camed to their specilties like melodics, heaviness, aggression and deppression. All the songs displayed these specific themes and I thought it was a great combination. Fans of
Hypocrisy would enjoy this very much, they would at least enjoy two tracks on this EP. I would also recommend this EP to death-metal people who haven't heard of this band, this band needs to be discovered by deah-metal people. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I thope this has been a helpful review.
