HISTORY
They come from Chicago, they play old-school death-metal in very slow tempos and is probably one of the oldest death-metal bands from Chicago. This band is called
Cianide, formed in 1998, they came to the world with some of the heaviest and slowest death-metal around. Their music was between standing on the edge of death-metal and doom-metal, their music was very heavy, dense, brutal and slow. And with the vocalist's deep and slow growling made the band seem even more gloomy and spooky.
ALBUM INFORMATION
This album is their first album and it is called
''The Dying Truth''. The material in this album can only be described in one word: slow, every song is sluggish, deppressing, gloomy and very heavy. The only exception is the faster
Human Cesspool, this is the only song with a faster pace than the other songs. The rest of the songs are fast as a snail, they are very slow in other words. The vocals are deep and slow growling, there is not much variety in the vocals which make them very boring and uninteresting. The overall sound production sounds very dense and thick, there are not many clean moments (there is basically
no clean moments on this album). The lyrics is typical death-metal stuff, the band focus their lyrics towards dark themes such as war, violence, bad attitude and so on.
BAND MEMBERS
This album was performed by a small trio, we start with vocalist and bassist
Mike Perun. This must be the slowest growlings I have heard, he delivers growlings in very a deep, dark and dense format. There are no signs of variety in the vocals, the chance of getting bored by them is very high. And his bass, what about it? The bass is eqully as heavy and dense as the guitars, the only clear tunes you can hear from the bass in only one song, otherwise there are no standouts or special sections with the bass as ''front-instrument''.
Scott Carroll is the guitarist in this blury death-band, I can't admit that this performace was great or good. These guitars were bad, the guitar work was quite ''single-tracked'' in all the songs, the riffs/shredds were anything else but catchy. None of the songs grabbed my and thats because of the dull and slow guitar work, the variety among the poor structured riffs was also bad.
Jeff Kabella was the drummer in this album, his performance was equally as poor as the other members. The drumming was very low-tech drumming, the patterns were boring, slow and very uncatchy. The drums maybe was a bit heavy but that is the only good thing I can say about the drum performance.
MY THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS ALBUM
Man, this album is so hard to judge! Just kidding, this was one of the most uninteresting death-metal bands I have ever heard! I will be totally honest with you, there was nothing that I can call enjoying in this album. The whole album was just as interesting as watching a stone trying to beat the c**p out of a shovel. One reason why I didn't like this album was the sluggish tempos, there was oly one song that had a faster tempo than the other songs but it didn't make that song better than the rest. Some of the songs were increasing in speed but not much, none of the songs had that little thing called catchy. Another thing that bugged me was the ultra-slow growling, death-growls are though a classic feature in the death-metal genre but this was just so dull, boring and even more boring.
MY CONCLUSION
As you can see this review wasen't written with big enthusiasm, I just saw this band on the internet and I thought that I could check them out, now I realize that this was just a huge waste of time. This was the most uninteresting death-metal band I have heard yet, but if I never took myself time to look at this I would maybe miss something special. If I should recommend this album to someone it would be serious death-metal fans, though I think there are some fans out there who would give this one a chance. But I suggest that you listen to at least one or two songs before you get this album. I will not recommend any of these songs to be honest, get the whole thing if you like death or doom-metal or you can just leave this alone. I'm sorry if this review seemed uninspired but I did my best on this one and I hope I have given some guidance to you people.
This album will be given a 1.5/5 because of its sluggish and uninteresting overall material
