Review Summary: Sput artist #2078 is solid
Another day, another Sput artist. The first track has intricate drum patterns and ambient acoustic plucking. What a lovely, proggy pie, and what a set tone. Those drums made me physically sick from the realization that I could never produce drums as good. A great opener, and two tracks follow. The next track feels prog, but is more post-grungey, especially with those wailing vocals. The lovely acoustic bits remain, which is a great continuation to the final track, including pretty piano, and that’s it.
The EP is a very short collection of ideas that blend so well together, that the artist establishes their sound handily. It’s proggy, it’s rocky, it’s indie, and some of the beats are mathematical: it all goes down smooth. The opening track is unrelentingly groovy, and more songs of that calibre would be appreciated. Still, the EP serves as a short, punchy bit that’ll make you hold your breath for more excitement.
The singing is good though fairly mumbled. When the singer raises their voice it provides a hair raising experience that I wish would repeat itself more often. With more confidence, or more practice, these vocals could blow the roof off a stadium. For now though, they are under-utilized.
In comparison to other Sput artists, this one may not be the most memorable with this tiny ass release of gentle acoustics. However, good, relaxing beats are produced with a standout drum performance. It’s something to note because with a drummer like that, performances could go any which way in the future. The EP may be a tiny collection of ideas, but they are handled so well, with such melodic vibrance. Needs more tracks, pls and thank you.
