Taylor Swift sets off on her musical journey, hoping to capture the hearts of many. How did this leg of the journey go? Not stellar, but she does what she can...
Then 16 year-old Taylor Swift had those eyes full of hope and wonder. An inspired young lady hoping to capture the hearts and minds of many with her simplistic yet punchy delivery of them country-laced blues. Many are the heartbreaks, as the average teenager may face, and yet this record captured the hearts and minds of many a teenage girl. A goal which is accomplished, but not without bumps in the road...
She starts off this musical journey, allowing the gentle twang of her guitar and her enchanting voice carrying us through the first leg, offering up the first of her unfortunate romance stories. ("Tim McGraw") As we cruise down the highway, her eyes grow dim as both she and the guitar start to express loathing in her next bout of sadness ("Picture to Burn") before maintaining a somber and subdued tone between ("Teardrops on my Guitar") all the way to the nearly 4 minute epic that is ("Cold as You") which paints paints the picture of a boy feigning his love to her, which is unusually aggressive for a Swift song of this era.
She stopped at a gas station to calm down and collected her thoughts, pondering on which story to tell next. ("The Outside") of the car felt so cold I barely noticed it. However, I had noticed that her own demeanor changed. It became apparent that she was ("Tied Together with A Smile"), emulating the emotions of the protagonist in the story as if to convey the desperation of the character. Even her guitar wept at the strum of her fingers. After this point, I had become fatigued and fell asleep for a short while, waking up again 20 minutes later. A lot of it was a blur as the stories all began to sound the same by this time, although I do remember ("Invisible") standing out to me and the most memorable part of the final stage, highlighting the love triangle situation in a positive way all the while feeling the radiance of the upbeat acoustics pumping the joy into this delectable tale.
As I waved her goodbye and drove off, I felt a sense of anticipation. While this wasn't the greatest first outing a musical star could ever have, she would later open many doors and forge many a record in the the coming years which would better reflect her maturity both as a musician and a singer. Hopefully she looks upon this record with as much fondness as many of her fans do...
