In general, it feels like on this EP the Munich-based extremist is aiming to combine black metal with electroacoustic elements and develop a more psychedelic sound, rather than recording another raging cynical anthem.
Verbundenheit opens with a swift noise intro that made me wonder if it was an exercise in raw sound production or just an ambient piece, so I turned up my volume. With the beginning of Oscar I came to realize that now the project is exploring the “Cascadian” mix – alongside the traditional genre staples, this release features crunchier noise rock guitars, monotonous riffing, and clingy percussion. But the *** gets real with the introduction of an acoustic instrumental part that is designed in a truly trance-inducing state.
After two minutes of meditating on several repeating notes, Oscar starts the second chapter. With a new acoustic riff, a traditional DSBM part starts based on the melodic banshee screaming, interloped with Xasthur/Striborg inspired riffs.
The closing four-minute part brings up the nice memories of Lustmord’s records and a certain kind of ambient black, i.e. Velvet Cacoon and Deathspell Omega.
Kravt durch Krebst is one of the most captivating outfits in the European black metal scene to this day – and surely a band to keep an eye on.
