| SandwichBubble I don't really understand why you're ranking album rarity or whatever on sputnik using album titles, but at least I get the reasoning behind it now. I'm not the sputnik police or anything, by the way. It just struck me as odd and I wanted to ask, that's all. Thanks for the answer, and sorry to bother you.
| SandwichBubble But why mark which ones don't have a cd re-release? A lot of albums don't have a re-release...
| SandwichBubble I have to ask. Why did you add "[vinyl]" to the titles of a bunch of old records?
| dedex yo nice soundoff game m/
| SandwichBubble Album Edits 10,172 | God damn! I admire your commitment.
| SandwichBubble Re:script Yeah, I've noticed that. Feels like it showed up within the past week or so. The mods are already aware of it apparently. I hope nothing goes wrong again...
| SandwichBubble "Any way outside of your shoutbox I can share some artist names for additional support?" I've been kind of busy lately, but if you just shoutbox me the artist link, I'll help out when I can. You could also ask in the meds thread: https://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?p=19347646
| SandwichBubble Godspeed, man. | "I just hope the cover art doesn't get purged again..." I hope so too, cause I'm definitely not going through and adding artwork again if it does.
| SandwichBubble That news is from April man. Might be a bit too late for a submission on sput. That was probably why it got d3leted. Go for some more recent news if you can (within the past week).
| SandwichBubble Whaaaaat? That sucks. I've never had that happen before. I'd say give it another try later (if you're up to it). Was it for a new release/single/drama? Maybe they only allow that sort of thing.
| SandwichBubble It's no problem. | More to the point: "Album Edits 8,261" god damn. Knew it was gonna be pretty high.
| SandwichBubble I don't think there's a standard. Hell, I don't think you even NEED a source if you don't want to add one. I usually cite an article towards the end though, just in case.
| SandwichBubble Yeah, all you need to do is have 1 soundoff, 1 submitted news article, 1 band edit, and 1 album edit. You probably just have to make a news article and the stats will show up below your profile pic.
| SandwichBubble I admire your dedication. I've kind of just been doing it as I see them around the site. | You should submit a news article so you can see how many album/band edits you've made. It's probably like 10000 combined at this point.
| SandwichBubble I salute you, sir. | After what happened to all the album art last year, I kind of stopped adding large discographies to the site.
| JustJoe. about a week ago they wiped the ratings of someone who was giving 5?s to entire discographies of artists though i believe giving 1?s to is probably more common yeah
| JustJoe. all in all there should be a better way to limit or eliminate other sincere people suffering consequences for the actions of those that abuse the rating function
| JustJoe. i think they get super sensitive of it if it the ratings are designated at one artist in particular as i have seen them freak out at 5.0ing entire artist discographies before
| JustJoe. yeah this site is full of inconsistencies but that?s part of the charm or also part of the reason why i feel like i need to speak with a therapist every time i log in here
| JustJoe. just decided to divulge only what i personally consider classics because it?s easier to police my own ratings that way
| Britch2tiger @AndSalx - In the tracklist I posted an Archive dot org link where I archived the sound files in a compressed zip. Enjoy listening.
| Britch2tiger @AndSalx - Open your Shoutbox. I managed to request soundfiles from a Discogs account, out of the few that own a copy of the album (THAT was an awesome late Christmas gift). Sadly it was very overhyped - predictable but thankful to have finally heard.
| AndSalx How did you manage to listen Janus' debut album?
| InbredJed Dude, my pleasure. It's a solid list!
| rabidfish just realized there's no mikey dread on the database

| literallyzach i honestly hate rated eminem bc i think his music is conceptually unsound. i'll never argue with anyone about it tho i def understand why people would be into him but his music is vile to me lol
| literallyzach anyone who gives red velvet a 1/5 is evil and not to be trusted. imma listen to that moloko album
| literallyzach oh also you should read some of her translated lyrics, they're great
| literallyzach thanks for clarifying, I think only twilight was on my streaming service. shiina ringo is dope too, solid rating for kalk samen kuri no hana
| Futures can't believe it haha. 4 million people voted gary though. so encouraging. rand paul 2020
| Futures i know but hillary will win in a landslide, it's all but confirmed unfortunately.
| Futures i think the youth turnout this year will actually be record breaking by far. unfortunately trumps absolute implosion ruined the house strategy. i think hillary wins with over 320 evs.
| Futures consistent polling in the high teens in alaska as well!
| Futures if the lp gets 5% of the vote they get minor party status and matching federal funding. the two party system is destroyed man!
| Futures hell yeah man! you voting for him?
| owen why's the mac making it hard for you? It's mostly because of moving to a new city, meeting new people, writing music etc. I was stuck in a s***hole and my life had stagnated, which led to 24/7 video gamessss
| owen b-but you can't scrobble youtube! I stopped playing games altogether, but it used to take 90% of my spare time
| owen just download a few albums and play them back to back with the 3DS sound off
| owen Keep the lists coming, I got some cool stuff from them
| SandwichBubble Why did you add more Chipmunks to the database you terrible person? :)
| flukemmviii Nu metal is the genre in the world because its amazing
| rifkadm Thanks for recommending The Birthday Massacre. I know you sent that a while ago, but I just saw thit now. =)
| Jasdevi087 haha, no big deal, just looked on therangeplace
| NeroCorleone80 yeah first 2 Killing Joke albums in particular rule hard
| NeroCorleone80 yeah I'm a big Killing Joke fan and theres definitely a similar vibe
| NeroCorleone80 I haven't jammed it a whole lot so it could go up in time
| LotusFlower Ye, pretty great band. You usually dont get so many musicians with the same kind of over the top charisma of Freddy Mercury, so it's always nice to see a band that does and does it as great as Jellyfish.
| zakalwe '94 Woodstock? yeah man, classic.
| zakalwe Eoghan Quigg is more 'real' than brand new dude.
| InbredJed lol, indifference isn't a quality that rouses my interest any further than the nil that it already was.
| danielcardoso Ahah, you sure your 90s stuff bud. It's my favorite decade of music as well, check Pavement if you haven't.
| MyNameIsPencil Anytime man! Also I dug your 90's list, managed to have both the necessity's along with lesser known stuff
| MyNameIsPencil it's not a good idea to bump a thread that's been dead for 6 years fyi
| EasterInTheBatcave ...in that you aren't judging the music entirely based on 'songwriting' but rather on the improvisation skill of each musician. This is why jazz is so hard to play, as it is not based on a recital, as most music is, but a constantly shifting, changing aesthetic. Also note that there are many different forms of jazz (free jazz, cool jazz, smooth jazz, hard bop, etc.) in the same way there are metal subgenres (sludge, black, death, thrash, etc.) and expectations vary depending on each subgenre.
| EasterInTheBatcave Hey, there's plenty of ways to differentiate good vs. bad jazz. The most obvious is the technical quality of the performances-- or, in other words, is it well-performed-- which is like all other forms of music. There's also the uniqueness-- does this sound like all other jazz, or is there something unique about it? Again, this can be applied to rock, metal, hip hop, indie, etc. Where jazz is different is that it is, often, highly improvisational. This can colour the other categories...
| InbredJed Ive never checked Karnivool, although I have their discog waiting to be cracked on my hard drive.Messing and re arranging track listing is something Ive done ever since I started listening to music. Ive only ever listened to albums as a whole, and I had a great cd player with a legitimate random setting that would use all the time when I was young. I discovered that most of my favourite albums had multiple different ways to experience the album.
| InbredJed track orders DO MATTER when listening to an album!THIS
| InbredJed Im not much for ratings, I just do them to categorize things in my head. Im constantly changing and updating them, but I don't really think about them when I'm listening to the album or considering said albums relevance.
| InbredJed You seem to take a similar approach to music as I do myself.Observation of art as a series of cultural phenomena which all blend into one tapestry.
| Voivod You can make a list for those comparisons, and have people voting while commenting.
| RVAHC13 Anytime, I love Pavement for obvious reasons but GBV will always be #1 in my book
| Voivod I'm a CD guy too, I like LPs, but unfortunately I don't have room to store them haha! Yellow Devil Sauce are lazy, they should have a bandcamp account active by now...
| Voivod Nope, I checked, it isn't on Spotify. By the way, I like that you write soundoffs about everything you listen to.
| Voivod I assume you are already aware of the youtube links including the rest of the songs then. I don't know what to say, band should've made a bandcamp account by now, maybe the album is available at Spotify.
| Voivod No, it's not bad, but it's not exceptional either. Check their last album, it rocks.
| Torontonian I think that covers it. Give me another shout if you have another question. As i do really love the genre and would love to help someone else find the same beauty in it as i and many others do :)
| Torontonian But i suppose i haven't really answered your question :P. Qualities that i personally admire in jazz are...perceived Individual Passion/power of musician, Melodic Creativity/Evocativeness, Unification of instruments to make/augment a desired sound/emotion, or anything else that you may or may not find favorable :)
| Torontonian Bill Evans and Jim Hall- Intermodulation, Herbie Hancock-Headhunters, Miles Davis- In a Silent Way. etc etc.
| Torontonian ... i recommend delving deeper into it, and you'll soon inherently appreciate more and more about the genre. I wouldn't concern yourself with whats "objectively/critically" considered good, just listen to what you like and keep digging... and you'll learn to appreciate the genre more and more as you do. Here are a few albums that got me into jazz, that i also find age like wine with time and exposure to more jazz...... John Coltrane-A Love Supreme, Alice Coltrane- Journey in Satchinananda,...
| Torontonian ah, i see. I mean "good" jazz really comes down to whether you like it or not, i suppose. :P. I guess thats rather obvious but thats really the truth. But like any other type of genre of music, you learn to appreciate/discern certain favorable qualities more as you become more seasoned and familiar with the genre. There are jazz albums that i now adore that i wouldn't have appreciated as much if i had heard them when i was less familiar( and vise versa). If you like a certain artist/sub-genre i.
| Torontonian s***t.... sent wrong link. This is the list i was referring to. :)http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=309219
| Torontonian etc etc... Listen to stuff until you find which particular musicians/styles/eras you enjoy. It really all depends on what type of jazz you like . Here's a pretty extensive and broad jazz list made by a user who knows a whole lot more than i do! http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=309219
| Torontonian Are you interested in any subgenre in particular? Thats a tough question since there's good jazz hiding just about anywhere so it's tough to set black-and-white rules. That being said, a lot of new jazz i've listened to (from my experience) is often insipid, overly noodly, or just too reliant on a style of a previous musician. But as i said there really is good jazz everywhere so its kinda pointless to set fixed rules. If you;re new to jazz i'd say start with the classics (Coltrane/Davis/mingus
| xxm That is certainly true and you're welcome by the way.
| TwigTW Yeah, that's true, Dukes of Stratosphere have one album and one EP. (1.5 albums, Lol.) Good luck with your search!
| xxm You have some nice soundoffs, my friend.
| Snowdog808 Not a problem. Their album was a great addition to the then young prog metal scene, it's too bad it never had nearly the exposure that Queensryche, Fates Warning, Savatage, and Crimson Glory had.
| facupm yeah i just wanted to point it out!
| Lord(e)Po)))ts do it up, there was a lot of stuff on there that i love. will be checking some of the stuff i havent.
| Voivod According to the site owner, there's a server upgrade under way, so bugs are anticipated.
| Britch2tiger Great... My "create a list" link is giving me trouble. Two attempts at making another list, and now the "submit" button is greyed. #sputnikmusiconthefrtizagain
| TheSupernatural There are a few really good songs on there and that's what I remember. Crush, Tortured, and Prayer for Rain are the ones I go back to
| killerK1 I'm just happy someone put Vex Red in a list. Such a good album, sad that they had label problems and never really got even semi big.
| GooGooGajoob You should write a review then! Or at least score it.
| GooGooGajoob Oh yeah? Well what about this album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvwmFoql0lg
| GooGooGajoob Could only find a broken myspace page. Honestly, I don't understand why're your after such mediocre music...you're better chasing more rarities like The Pop Group or something. That's what I was expecting...
| GooGooGajoob I'm afraid I don't know the act you're after. Why, you were hoping I'd make an upload to my channel for the full album?
| Snake. i knew what you meant. nice meme, btw.
| Amnesian Thanks for the recc, I'll check it out.
| sncold Haha! Thanks! I'm a huge Louis CK fan, so nice one yourself!
| Jom I'll bottom-line this for you and leave you to your own devices: the "tab or route to follow" is to heed casual warnings. You cannot claim prejudice on their end but say you're not being prejudicial by brigading against entire artists. Abusing the rating system to give certain bands or artists (or cash-grabs) artificially low average scores is not tolerated.
| Jom It's true that you are entitled to your opinion. It's also true that brigading against artists (even if they're obvious cash grabs) violates site policy. It seemed fair to me to give you a heads-up.
| Britch2tiger Hey Jon, it took me a long while to listen to those Kidz Bop albums, and the NOW albums are much easier - considering they are compilation albums regarding singles from the year. About 1-2 every year, roughly 40-50 mins each. They're pretty easy albums to rate.
| Jom Hi there: your ratings keep getting wiped because of your affinity of rating every single Kidz Bop and NOW! albums a 1. There's no way that you'd torture yourself by listening to each of those records, and while it's understandable that you want to generalize those ratings across an artist, it's going to cause headaches for you down the line. Cheers
| Britch2tiger 9/12/15 - Happened again... All my ratings just disappeared... 3rd time now. Seriously, does anyone else have this problem!?
| Friday13th Thanks and yes, prog is my thing. I've only heard the latest Rishloo and thought it was good if a little too Mars Volta for my taste. 3.0/5.0
| AtomicWaste I was listening to a bit of that new Rishloo album a little while ago and found them kinda Mars Volta-y (from a cursory listen), but I made a note to listen more. I can try to jam them today though, definitely something that was on the to-do list. Thanks for the reminder!
| Britch2tiger You know that moment when you realize your profile's ratings were all erased, so you panic and try remembering every album you listened to in order to re-rate every album... Yeah, today was such a day...
| Britch2tiger 5FDP's first few albums make for good workout music, if you're one that fuels one's self w/ anger to move. Their early work was very consistent w/ decent lyrics. They're about a step above Godsmack.
| Britch2tiger Even so, I'd like to make an earnest point: these albums would be much less stigmatizing if the producers instead made "child-friendly" compilations of the today's "hot artists" by selling them as songs that came from the original artist(s). I can understand the sing-along aspect for infants
| FrankieFrog So you've actually spent the time and energy to listen to them? That's insane. I actually owned the first two Kidz Bop albums being 10 at the time and even I won't bother listening to them now. But you do have to understand their target audience.
| Britch2tiger Truthfully, I detest these albums. I've tediously listened to the original tracks first, then I listen to the KB versions, and these kids butcher the tracks... Every. Single. Time! As much as I hate listening to them, someone has to make a point of how bad these albums are, and I guess I'm one of the few that will...
| Britch2tiger Trying to see if there are any worth listening, and sadly they all end in the same result: Kids CANNOT SING in comparison to the actual artists' recordings... Going to contribute more to their archive when I have the time.
