| Iamthe Nightstars better take of it and sending it to my guy later to have him mix it in but I?m not sure if I should just scrap it altogether. Just wanted to know what you thought. So if you want to hear them I could email you the rough mixes. I?d be happy to critique your songs as well when they?re ready if you want me to.
| Iamthe Nightstars Hey, not to rush you or anything, but I'm sending my songs to my guy to get mixed today. Not sure how long it will take him, I'm guessing by the end of the month. But I was wondering if I could have your critique of them. They're still not quite set in stone yet. I wanted to see if you thought anything should be changed or added or if you had any good mixing ideas for them that I could tell my guy about. There's also a vocal part in one song I'm not too sure about, I was planning on recording a
| Slex Is there any way at all you could link me to the Do Make Say Think leak? I would be forever grateful pls
| buzzkites come on pal i'm just joking, don't be mad
| Iamthe Nightstars Hey there. Just an. I recently had some family obligations that have prevented me from getting much work done but I'm about 90% finished with the songs. There's just a few things I want to change and work on. I hate to make you wait but I want to make sure they are as good as I can get them. It shouldn't be long now though and I'll be sending them to my guy for mixing. How is it looking on your end?
| Iamthe Nightstars Awesome. I can't wait to hear it. I still have a lot of school work at the moment so I haven't done much but I'll start finishing them up in the beginning of April. It shouldn't me take long, I just need to write the endings for the songs and record a few parts. I was thinking of recording vocals for one of the songs.
| Iamthe Nightstars Ok, I'll keep all of that in mind. I don't really have a preference of going first or second.
| Iamthe Nightstars I was thinking about doing two songs for it. I have one song close to being done with recording and another one I'm in the middle of writing still. Both are around 4 minutes long. I'm busy as well with school right now, but my semester ends at the beginning of April so I should be able to have them finished that month for sure and hopefully have them mixed by the next month. You can do as many songs as you want, I don't care, it's up to you.
| Iamthe Nightstars Hey, I've been listening to your last EP. It turned out pretty nice. I was wondering if you were still interested in doing a split?
| DungeonBoy Hey man, just had a chance to jam Last Day and I liked it, but especially the track "We Synced". I found that one to be the most captivating. It reminded me of some Explosions in the Sky, but in its own unique way and not a clone. It also transitions well into Sanctuary. Good job!
| AsleepInTheBack sure man. you'll get a request from a Ben whose profile picture features his gran; that'll be me
| AsleepInTheBack Self-destructive in the sense of unintentionally pushing a few friends away due to not making time due to work and probably drinking a little too much to try instigate some feelings. Nothing too major though, like you said there are good days and bad ones. Glad to see that you seem to be enjoying the new JEW, though shame that it wasn't mind-blowing for you.
| AsleepInTheBack It certainly is a beautiful record yeah, could see it being a grower. Glad to hear you're doing a bit better, though sorry about the job. Indeed, they are the kind of times where you feel too busy to take stock, but I often find that they reveal whats truly important to you and what makes you tick. Yeah I'm doing alright, my workload is a bit much these days so I've been struggling to find the time to figure out a few things in my head, and I feel like I've been a bit self-destructive
| AsleepInTheBack hey man, just figured I'd drop by to check how your doing. I know we haven't spoken that much but I while back (i think it was on a JEW thread?) you were talking about some depersonalisation-esk stuff that you were dealing with that I related to quite a bit, just wanted to check your doing alright (prompted somewhat by the fact that I've been feeling like that a lot lately). Also, about to check 'The Dark, Dark Bright', should hopefully dig it
| onionbubs The 2 songs between sure and certain and pass the baby weren't as immediate, but now i dig them both. The album's highlights are pretty scattered throughout, but that's better than being front heavy (coughcoughbleedamerican) or something like that.
| onionbubs On repeated listens it's starting to grow even more. Plenty of songs that didn't stick out immediately are starting to grow hard. Pol roger is outstanding
| onionbubs its easily a highlight along wirh sure and certain and pol roger. i really dug this one. its top 3 jew imo (behind only clarity and futures)
| onionbubs yo the riff at the end of pass the baby is crushing as ****. didnt expect that from jew tbh
| NorwichScene Yes, it's leaked. I use 1337x then buy if like what I hear
| AsleepInTheBack haha thats a shame, though awesome to have it, cheers for letting me know
| onionbubs Im pretty excited too. Thats how i was with the green day, which is probably pretty embarrassing haha considering their reputation as of late
| onionbubs Oh man you wanna hear that new jimmy eat world dont you?
| AsleepInTheBack Cheers man, I really appreciate the detail there, I'll let you know what I think of them when I check them.
| AsleepInTheBack ... whatever I find is going on in my life. However, I certainly understand them not clicking with everyone, especially Kid A as I've seen some solid critique of that record. Also, I've been meaning to get into Talk Talk, Kayo Dot and Sigur Ros for an age given the titans that they are in their fields; which would you recommend I check first?
| AsleepInTheBack Nah dont worry about it, really interesting to see the thought behind someone's ratings. Subjectivity is always the way forward with ratings yeah. I understand your reasoning for sure, OKC was originally around the 3-3.5 mark for me, as was Kid A; they're not the sort of records that grip you from first listen I don't think (at least in my experience), but they're relatively easy listening and yet surprisingly deep (instrumentally, as well as lyrically) that they're good soundtracks to ...
| AsleepInTheBack Nice to see you've rated some stuff man, appreciate the post-rock love. Got some controversial ones too haha, not a fan of Bon Iver, OKC and Kid A, and The Mantle? Do you mind explaining? I get the dislike of The Mantle (I find it can be quite dull when I'm not in the mood) and similarly with Bon Iver. OKC and Kid A are so so solid imo though, they really grow with you when you live with them and revisit them.
| AsleepInTheBack No worries. Haha we all get into petty arguments on sput from time to time. Awesome man. And yeah, the conversations are oft the best bit, and sometimes the worst haha
| AsleepInTheBack Hey man, just wanted to say that in the threads I've seen you in you've always had some really insightful comments and it'd be cool to see your opinion on some more things so it'd be cool to see you get some ratings out there. Obviously no pressure and it's your choice haha, just saying I'd appreciate it (:
| zakalwe Probably read by Gervais himself. Exciting!!!
| SAPoodle If I told you that, I'd have to kill you ;)
| Iamthe Nightstars Your stuff has a nice atmosphere to it. The production is pretty crisp as well. I think a split would be a cool idea to do some day.
| Xenophanes It's a promo that they sent out. No idea when it might stream. Sorry dude.
| bnelso55 Also, thanks for the upload advice. I may give Soundcloud a try for starters. If I put up a demo or two, would you be willing to share your thoughts?
| bnelso55 It seems like our styles of writing are actually quite similar. For me, a song?s initial framework comes together quickly, but I obsess over the details for a long time afterward. Sometimes it?s because I?m excited by the possibilities, and sometimes it?s because the music just doesn?t have the ?effect? that I want.
| bnelso55 Your tracks feel well thought out, in my opinion. I could maybe find a point or two where I could say it sounds more like a ?string of random ideas? but for the most part, I think the music progresses quite naturally.
| bnelso55 I?ve always liked the constant variation of the through-composed approach as well. I prefer it much of the time. One would think that would be the easiest way to write music, but embracing that form whilst creating something satisfying (for the writer or the listener) can be challenging. At least, it is for me.
| bnelso55 I actually haven?t posted the music anywhere yet. I have files sitting in a DropBox folder and that?s really it. I?ve shown them to a couple people, but I?ve been reluctant to share it elsewhere because I worry that the music is actually terrible, and with the blunt honesty of the Internet being what it is I?ll come to realize that I maybe shouldn?t be spending so much time working on it. That said, it may be helpful to try getting some feedback. Where would you suggest? Do you like Bandcamp?
| bnelso55 I do the exact same thing. Each song I have has probably been recorded 4 or 5 times. Sometimes I completely revise it and sometimes I only make minute tweaks here and there. Sometimes I do all of that and come away feeling that despite all of that work I haven?t improved the music at all. In all, how much time would you say you have spent composing these Shooter songs?
| bnelso55 About the refining process, I can totally empathize. I have a handful of songs I've been writing, rewriting, recording, and rerecording for a couple years now. It can be so frustrating when you can't seem to get the music to flow just the way you want. Fortunately for you, you have a solid foundation to work with. The tracks you have are already pretty great, in my opinion. All the same, best of luck in finishing them up. I know it's challenging.
| bnelso55 Really digging the full-length demo, especially tracks 1 and 4. Hoping to find time to jam it again today. Good work and keep the music coming!
| bnelso55 Hey minty! Thanks for the link! I will certainly check this out. I need to revisit your first output. It's been awhile, but I do recall really enjoying the music. I'll get back with you. Keep me posted on the album. I look forward to hearing it.
| DarkNoctus the negativity went a lot further than just the "noctus=wrong opinion" thing. some people were really awful, a lot of the really bad stuff wasd but i still saw it and often it's all that comes to mind now whenever i see the "noctus=wrong opinion" stuff. i used to find it funny myself until people got pretty malicious about it and started stalking me on other sites just to **** with me, downrate my music and insult me. some of it is still there on other sites. i'm just sick of the tirade.
| DarkNoctus my review has more negs than actual views :v
| DarkNoctus no problem! the guy who owns the label that puts my stuff out was going to put some stuff out by them and he sent them to me before last poem/first light came out, it was great and i forgot it existed. the new tracks sound so, so stellar though, right?
| DarkNoctus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TQhxYaMn7s
| DarkNoctus also that title track keeps on growing on me, holy hell, the stunner of the album imo
| DarkNoctus i listened and feel the same way as you, i liked the title track more than you did. i think it'll be a slow burner, texturally it's rather different to anything they've done before so i just have to climatize
| JS19 I saw them supporting HIM too but in Manchester, and I thought the sound was excellent!
| JS19 Have you seen them live yet?
| iamamanfromspace F? A? ? hasn't even really hit me yet but Yanqui has, so I think I'm an odd case. I always thought it was pretty cool, and then I had a moment with the closing track and ever since I've thought of it as something special. Definitely not a record to give up on if you don't really love it on the first couple of listens, which is something I'm afraid many people probably do
| iamamanfromspace ahhh dude why so harsh on Yanqui, it's super underrated and I kinda thought you of all people might get it
| Artuma ok it's understandable that you have such a soft spot for jew. however i think diary is much more hard-hitting than tpof (but then again, i had already fallen in love with diary before having even heard tpof) and imo hymn to the immortal wind is nothing compared to gy!be (even tho you're right, gy!be needs a certain mood to be fully enjoyed)
| Artuma nothing that really annoys me but to give an example, you have really high ratings for jew (damage 5/5?) but on the contrary you 3'd a bunny's caravan and sunny day real estate (also you 4'd the power of failing which is very similar to diary). also low ratings for gy!be but two 5's for mono?
| Artuma you just have some really unpopular opinions on some albums lol
| Artuma you havee some of the most random ratings i've seen
| DarkNoctus listening to the moonlit sailor album now and i'm actually really enjoying this. this is how you do the easy-to-digest poppy post-rock - it may be easily digested but it isn't lazy like lights
| Iamthe Nightstars I agree with you about that Foxing album. It's good, but it doesn't really have that 90s emo vibe. It made me think of Brand New.
| DarkNoctus he really holds himself back and it's kind of infuriating, i know he's cutting the metal out but there are other shoegaze bands with more energy than this, plus the production isn't that great, not keen on the sigur ros dude's production work
| CK I see you like Envy. Have you checked out their Abyssal EP? To me, it's easily their best
