| Drifter Ok look you need to listen to Kolya's album Kolya asap. You will love it. Pls
| SlothcoreSam You need to check C.O.F.F.I.N - Children of Finland Fighting in Norway. Gritty Aussie Rock. Could be my album of the year
| Conmaniac nah not in full but the EP impressed me a ton...will peep for sure
| keza I haven't heard of him before, definitely gonna give him a listen though! The cover art of him sticking out of a garbage bin...I mean, how could I not listen to that
| BlushfulHippocrene What'd you think of new song, friend??? This new album is shaping up to be damn good.
| dimsim3478 milhouse are kind of legends, you should def check em out (wil covered one of their songs way back). doesn't seem like very long ago when i saw smithies do a TMITR release show at the rev. oh and what's yr friend's band name? i'll jam them for sure
| dimsim3478 nah i aint. regret it a little, cuz the rev is a wonderful spot and freaking milhouse are playing a set.
| verdant sure have brother. pop punk isn't really my thing but they're v cool from what i've heard!
| BlushfulHippocrene Oh man, I'd not heard it before, but this is gonna be stuck in my head for a LONG time. Reminds me a little bit of older Hard Aches.
| dimsim3478 jesus christ they murdered. and goddamn the floor was nuts. i've never ever been more soaked at the end of a show before.
| dimsim3478 hey schoon if you see a kid tonight wearing a white ENDON shirt that'll be me
| BlushfulHippocrene Oh man, I need to listen to the latest one again, but Viv in the Front Seat was AMAZING. What did you think??
| Piglet hahah yeah nah nah fairo ay bloody mong seppos and smarmy pommies have been allowed to run amok, unleashed and unadulterated for too long now. me nd yew lads gotta pump that ocker energy up a notch or tew
| Piglet yeebooouyyyysz gahahahh ive just evolved inta me foinal form as a perennial lurker m/
| BlushfulHippocrene I understand. Admittedly, it's probably about a 3.5 for me. I love it, and it's beyond charming; but again, it's nothing spectacular. I think their next is the one that'll really do it. And I think you'd like McCafferty -- worth checking their last EP, Thanks Sorry Sure.
| BlushfulHippocrene Ah man, if I can find something interesting to say, definitely. It's nothing spectacular, just pure class. Sounds like a tamer, more level-headed version of McCafferty's latest. Have you listened yet?
| Drifter Did a little write up on Relationship of Command if you're interested: https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=180406
| Piglet love that stooges-esque abrasive barbed wire guitar tone, pretty good song man. kinda reminds me of the saints as well. the aussie inflection with the vocals is pretty cooll -- also -- "the west is besttt" yeeeee they're west end boiz nah chuck out the vb lads hahah
| BlushfulHippocrene ...when they pushed back the release of the album, but if this is what they've been doing in the meantime I damn well won't complain.
| BlushfulHippocrene My gosh, schoonda, it's damn good, isn't it? It's not my favourite from them, but they actually sound like a "them" now -- I was a little disappointed by 'Aliens' because it didn't seem to utilise the band much, despite how good they were live, but this fixes pretty much every issue with their previous recorded stuff. The recording/production itself is so much better than anything they've ever released. That noodly little riff that pops in during the chorus is so lovely. Was a little impatient..
| Piglet nahhh dude they sound familiar tho, do ya recc em?
| BlushfulHippocrene 100% agreed. Doesn't hit as hard as Headwreck, of course, but I love the vocals in the verses, kinda shows them as capable of making more than just bangers, despite its explosive chorus.
| AsleepInTheBack Just gave a couple of songs a whirl and this is lovely, cheers for this
| BlushfulHippocrene Ah, yes!! Ceres, remember? They were fantastic openers, they're so energetic. What have you been listening to? I think I've only actually listened to that one song with the cool MV in the warehouse.
| BlushfulHippocrene It's today, right? Definitely let me know how it goes, mate. (: And I'll admit to not being a huge Alex Lahey fan, but I definitely agree, her rise has been quick and deserved.
| BlushfulHippocrene Man, I wish, but I've family over right now. How about you?? Been before?
| Crawl I think you'll dig it!
| Crawl Oh man, it's hard to find anything on Meadowlands' level, but if you haven't checked Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot yet, then I'd recommend it. It's hardly obscure, but it's the closest thing to Meadowlands in sound and quality I can think of.
| BlushfulHippocrene At same point, I did like it, I think, but I much prefer the EP. Was a little disappointed with the album, it's the kind of thing I'd thought would be right up my alley, too, but I wasn't a fan of the production or the lyrics. (We All Die) is amazing, but perhaps the only thing on it I /love/ on it. I think if they released another album now I'd like it a lot more. What did you love about it? I might give it another listen. (:
| BlushfulHippocrene Ahhh, should've messaged you beforehand. I was, and it was amazing. Never thought I'd actually get to see The Smithies so I was ecstatic. Yeah, Tom wasn't great vocally, but their performance was immense! What'd you think of Slowly Slowly?
| BlushfulHippocrene Glad to hear it. Yet to hear Slowly Slowly as a full band, only seen Ben solo. I listened to a bit of Sincerely, Grizzly since you last mentioned them, so that's amazing, man. And I saw that, too, kinda rushed to grab mine when I found out they might actually sell out. I've not seen The Smithies promote it yet, but I've a feeling it'll sell out when they do.
| BlushfulHippocrene Anyway, you're right, we'll have to wait and see, it's going to be interesting how it all transpires. Did you end up snatching those Ceres tickets for August, man? And did you end up going to that Slowly Slowly gig? ((:
| BlushfulHippocrene Between this and the PWR BTTM scandal, I think a dangerous precedent is being set. Even if the allegations are true in either case, it's demonstrating that it isn't hard to bring down an artist via social media. I've seen people writing things like, "This band makes s*** music anyway," as though it justifies the potentially ruining a career.
| BlushfulHippocrene Might sound controversial, but whether the claims are true or not, it's shrouded in ideological phrases. A lot of people throwing around vague but heavy language, "serial rapist," "abuser," "abuse," etc. I suppose I'm just going to have to wait, I think preemptively taking sides is dangerous. If you side with the band, you might be dismissing legitimate victims; if you side with people trying to take down the band, you might be unwarrantedly ruining a career. Sorry for the rant. :P
| BlushfulHippocrene It's so difficult, because I'm aware of a lot of unfounded similar allegations against artists in the past, and I'm going through the Facebook posts now and a lot of the people posting are making non-specific, dismissive statements -- a lot of people who aren't involved -- but at the same time I'd rather not dismiss the people coming forward, because at this point it's literally he said, she said. At the same time, the hate lobbied at Triple J is just dumb IMO...
| BlushfulHippocrene Just realised the rest of the message cut off because of ampersands. :P But there's a group called Press Club with them, too, unsure if you've heard of them.
| BlushfulHippocrene I think Melbourne might close to sell out, just because of Wil (It's on the ticketing site, "with Wil Wagner, Slowly Slowly
| BlushfulHippocrene Dude. Ceres are playing a show in August with Wil and Slowly Slowly. I couldn't make it to Forum or Slowly Slowly this Friday, so definitely not going to miss this one. How was the Forum show btw? (:
| BlushfulHippocrene That title... Fantastic song, thanks a lot. What do you think of their other material?
| BlushfulHippocrene Whoa, they're releasing a 7" with the song on it and only releasing it at the upcoming Smithies shows. Regretting not going even more now...
| BlushfulHippocrene Cheers for getting me to check Ceres as well, man, Drag it Down is super under-appreciated, I feel like it's something a lot of people on this site would dig.
| BlushfulHippocrene Yeah, I missed it as well, was so glad it was up on Spotify when I checked. I agree 100%, chorus felt a little underwhelming. Wil's vocals feel a bit too buried in the mix as well, finding it hard to hear a lot of what's happening. Really solid tune despite that, it's nice hearing Wil on one of their tracks, and their little vocal exchange at the end is pretty cute.
| BlushfulHippocrene Hey man, have you given that Ceres/Wil Wagner song a listen yet? What'd you think if you have?
| Rowan5215 hell I'll jam any song with wil on it, I'll make sure to give that a check
| Rowan5215 lotta james blake vibes from him which I like, dude has a nice falsetto for sure. I think the name Ceres is familiar but I can't think of their music off the top of my head, no
| Rowan5215 ha fair enough. I only actually found out about McMorrow yesterday in fact, my friend sent me a jam and I thought it was really nice, hope the guy was good live. Disintegration is def one of my favourite albums ever and a great place to start, it's very long and depressing though so be prepared for that
| Rowan5215 ah damn would've killed to go to splendour last year but didn't have the funds. did you catch the cure there? jealous af
| Rowan5215 tbh I'd actually forgotten about the Mindsweep. I remember There's a Price on your Head was totally lit and Microscope was also really nice but it hasn't really stuck with me. suppose I should re-jam it but Common Dreads will always be the one for me. also fvck didn't even know they were coming to aus, might catch the sydney show if I can fit it in around uni stuff lol. you gonna see em?
| Rowan5215 ah oh god that's embarrassing. nah I was a lot more impressionable and easily swayed in those days, as my review probably proved. I'd give it a 3 or so, it's def their weakest effort
| Rowan5215 easy mistake to make tbf my love of british comedies means I slip into their dialect every now and then. Internationalist is still one of my favourite albums to this day, back when they would just throw randomly different genres together and it somehow worked, love that stuff
| Rowan5215 "powderfinger in favourite artists confirms it rowan is definitely australian" hahah love you dude

| Conmaniac hey man ya I ended up listening to it at like 3am that night. was really solid stuff so thanks a bunch
| Conmaniac hey sweet thanks for the rec dude i'll check em tonight probably. need some paper writing music hahah
| NorwichScene It really is bad. Listened to it twice and don't like it at all
| NorwichScene Yes, dissapointed so far too. Don't know if will even go see them in Norwich next month yet
| DaveyBoy Definitely. I get much more of a Thursday vibe anyway.
| DaveyBoy It took me a few listens to get used to No Devotion, but it's finally clicking. I think I was expecting more Lostprophets musically.
| DaveyBoy Nope. On the priority list though.
| DaveyBoy Officially excited. Genuinely heavy musically... Genuinely melodic vocally.
| DaveyBoy Yep, on my list to listen to. Actually listening to the not too dissimilar Young Guns as we chat. Its not as good as their previous 2 LPs, but not as bad as everyone made it out to be
| DaveyBoy Hey stranger. Huge reco for you. Too Close To Touch LP Nerve Endings
| NorwichScene Now doing a review for it, prob get slated but will bring attention to the band
| NorwichScene 5th listen through... Easy 4 excellent. I've done a soundoff
| NorwichScene Listened to it twice so far, it's really good. May rise to a 4 soon
| InFiction Ah, so it is! Yeah, I'm keen to check them out, I've heard good things.
| InFiction Yeah, I've been meaning to check their album out for a while now. Same label, yeah?
| InFiction Hey, thanks dude! I'm not entirely sure why, truth be told. Due to the word limit, they're a lot less detailed than my reviews for sputnik, so they might seem out of place. And constantly making a list for people to read them seem excessive, aha.
| InFiction Of course man, here you go: http://www.tonedeaf.com.au/reviews/new-music/396128/i-dont-want-to-be-anywhere-but-here.htmI definitely need to get their EP.
| InFiction Not yet, man. I had to review their album for work, but I really enjoyed it, so I'm definitely keen to grab their EP!
| DaveyBoy Ta. Might stream it when its released.
| DaveyBoy Yeah, it seemed so. Zebraheads sound on the same stage was better, but they are nowhere near as loud and distorted. Very mixed feelings re Green Day. Firstly, they only went about 150 minutes. And of that, a lot of time was wasted with crowd interaction, woh wohs, etc. The middle portion was almost exclusively Dookie and ruled though. Put it this way, its lucky they have so many hits.
| DaveyBoy AFI were really good I thought. I got mixed vibes with The Story So Far. Playing at one of the smaller stages probably did not help. Difficult to explain, but I dunno if they have fully settled into the band they want to be yet.
| DaveyBoy Biffy, TSsFar, Alk3, MuteMath, AFI, Zebrahead, Panic, BVBrides, ICall5s, Jimmy and Green Day. I saw Living Colour and Alter Bridge 2 days earlier.
| DaveyBoy Listened to 3 songs from Ceres at SW. Quite impressed. Good call.
| DaveyBoy Nope, but I did see earlier today that they had that slot, so will look them up. Who do they sound like?
| DaveyBoy Living Colour are best described as funk metal. They're black. Think a slightly heavier Chilli Peppers crossed with Rage Against The Machine.
| DaveyBoy I have always loved Living Colour. Check out my review of their album Vivid. Cult of Personality is probably my favourite song. As in number 1. Ever. Actually, I just checked Canterbury songs on SoundCloud and it looks like Think It Over was the lead single. Its the only one there
| DaveyBoy I had not actually realised that Satellite was the lead single. Strange choice, if so. Although, if anything, the album does lack that one big single. I think i would have gone with the album opener instead.
| DaveyBoy I will indeed be at SW. Probably at the Alter Bridge and Living Colour sidewave too, as I desperately want to see the latter, and it is tough to pick what stage and time AJ will fit them into the SW timetable.
| DaveyBoy On first listen, I like the new Canterbury LP. Its definitely different and I dont know if the slower tracks will grow or the opposite. If I continue to like it, I may do a quick write up. The singers voice is definitely reminding me of Ian Kenny, and that can only be a positive.
| DaveyBoy DLd Canterbury, so will give it a listen in the next week or so. Never heard of Blitz Kids. They seem to have been around a while. Theyre on the long list.
| DaveyBoy Bloody hell, I just found out about Kids In Glass Houses new LP 3 months after release, now this. These British bands need to promote new albums better.
| DaveyBoy Not yet. I have listened to all their EPs though, with mixed feelings. LP will be interesting.
| DaveyBoy Nope. Was going to, but I have Gaslight Anthem on Wednesday night and 2 work nights in a row would have drained my old weary bones.
| DaveyBoy Excellent. Id say the EP and LP are about on par with each other. One more listen and then I will have a rating for the LP tomorrow.
| DaveyBoy Im all out of recos at the moment. Yeah, Soundwave was great. Been trying to find the time to do my annual list, so stay tuned.
| THIEF Dude, I see you gave Woven Material a solid 4. Very nice!
| DaveyBoy So many clashes, it's not funny. Deaf Havana vs Billy Talent the worst of them for me. I have to first decide whether I want to see Metallica or not, and then work back from there.
| DaveyBoy Looks like Im missing them at SW. Of the early acts, the 3 I wanted to see are all on at the same time damn it. As Ive seen The Blackout twice before, I will pass this time. They are great fun though. Sean will be in the crowd a lot. Lots of laughs.
| DaveyBoy Ive given The Blackouts new album a proper few listens now. Its not as bad as what everyone is suggesting, but I can see why many dont like it. On first listen, the cringeworthy parts seemed to overawe the good parts. There also seemed to be no depth to any of the songs either. But a few of the tracks are growers. Its still a step down though and their worst LP. I agree with you that a 3 is the correct rating.
| THIEF Its all good, theres nothing like the Sputnik community to broaden your music tastes! When I first joined a few years ago, I pretty much only listened to Metalcore and Post-Hardcore. Now.. well you can just check out my Pie haha. Also, Mallory Knox isn't really my thing, but I'll try and give their album a solid chance and listen all the way through. I definitely like the dudes voice, which is something I can't say for a lot of modern post-hardcore bands haha (i.e. Asking Alexandria)
| THIEF Yeah, I agree. Normally I enjoy great cohesion in albums, but interestingly enough, there is TOO much in Conduit. Also, I feel like I can't enjoy a lot of the songs because they are over too soon. Thanks for the rec, i'll definitely check it out! I've been listening to Evaline's album Woven Material a lot lately. You should check out their song Picking It Up and let me know what you think. I see your a big fan of Post-Hardcore. They are more on the alt-rock side of things but are still great.
| THIEF I actually just heard Conduit today for the first time! I agree, not as good as WHA. What bothers me is that it had the potential to be as good or better, had they expanded their songs.. Its like every song is a rough sketch of a masterpiece, but they never got around to writing more than 2 verses and a chorus. A lot was left a lot to be desired by the end of the album..
| NorwichScene 2nd listen of Mallory Knox. Gets better! Best debut since Young Guns AOKAD
| NorwichScene Hey, not heard new Blackout yet. Mallory Knox Signals is great
| DaveyBoy Cant say that I have, but will keep an ear out for it. Ta for the reco.
| DaveyBoy Deaf Havana are definitely high up on my SW priorities, but until the timetables come out, no band is set in stone this time around. Could be a massive clashfest.
| DaveyBoy Hmm, Not very favourable tbh. I dont hate the 2 songs and I even like the fun vibe they have got going on. But I don't think they are all that catchy and memorable. How about you.
| DaveyBoy Yep, heard of them, but not heard them. Seen the bands name doing a lot of hard yards touring over the past year or so. Will give them a listen when I get a chance. Thanks for the reco.
