| Jethro42 Hi mena, a prog tourney is coming up in early spring. Are you interested? Cos I know you're in and out. If so, say hello here; https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=197193
| OmairSh Where you at mena? Been ages since I've seen you on here
| Jethro42 Hey man, I'm fine thanks, how are you? Are you talking about Sputnik's server issues that come and go? One thing is sure, you are not showing yourself often. What are your issues with the site?
| Jethro42 Hi mena, if you have time to help us out, we need someone to jam match 6 (M6) of our prog tourney and break the tie (8-8). Would appreciate it! - http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=177760
| Jethro42 Here are my recs. The founder of La Maschera di Cera, Hostsonaten and Finisterre, Fabio Zuffanti released a very interesting ecclectic prog album called ''La Quarta Vittima''. Also, a sympho prog album from Morse Code - La Marche des Hommes. Hope you'll find something of your interest.
| Jethro42 Sounds interesting, bro. I'm gonna get around to it asap. (probably later in the day). Thanks, and let me know if you dig the new Ingranaggi album...
| Jethro42 In case you wouldn't know, a brand new Ingranaggi Della Valle album came out. It seems it's still better than their first one. It's on Spotify. Good listen!
| TheSpaceMan I dream of the day you write a review for Timothy's Monster
| zakalwe Same old mate. What on earth have you been upto?
| Titan understood.....i never wrote one myself
| Titan yes sir, the music keeps it going.....your reviews are sorely missed
| Titan whats up man, family good? life's got ya wrapped up?
| MrSirLordGentleman yo check this http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/68582/Catapilla-Changes/
| Jots drop into the contrib forum when you get a chance
| heyhey. have no idea if that's a good way to reach out but - you've written a couple of pretty cool reviews for our albums and i'd like to send you the new (live) one before the release. can you drop us a message on facebook (or anywhere)? /marjana of iamthemorning
| Voivod This might interest you, symphonic prog rock from Holland - http://fusonic.bandcamp.com/album/fields-of-no-man-s-land
| Arcade "Change" touches me in ways that can't be explained, cracking pop tune
| Arcade i'm liking that you have The Lightning Seeds rated
| TwigTW Glad you liked it--always on the lookout for something new and interesting.
| TwigTW Don't know if your appreciation of Italian music extends any further than prog, but here is a new alternative/psych release I'm liking, Verdena - Endkadenz Vol. 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoIYKQ4Qk7w
| TwigTW I never really noticed Italian prog until you brought it into the prog contest, but between Unreal City and La Notte Anche di Giorno 2015 is looking to be a good year for it--really enjoying it.
| greg84 Nope. I've heard only Hold On. It's good if nothing amazing. The album may be great. Still we need to wait a couple of days. I'm familiar with the new Hawk Eyes record which is neat, not on par with their previous one though.
| Mad. Glad to see you dig Farflung bro
| ArsMoriendi http://www.sputnikmusic.com/soundoff.php?albumid=171520 Have you checked this? It's only about 12 minutes and pretty good.
| Friday13th Put down the nog and bring out the prog. Time is ticking and you have a day left to jam and vote!
| Frippertronics however, if you want, i can send a link that is the equivalent to the streamed version
| insomniac15 If you wish, I can send the files through we transfer. Give me a mail address.
| insomniac15 Go to new album releases net and search motorpsycho. That's where I downloaded my copy.
| ArsMoriendi I was looking around the Beefheart section of Sputnik and a lot of his albums don't have reviews. Only 4/13 do and the Lick My Decals Off's one isn't so good. I'm probably going to write a review for Mirror Man and I was talking to Fripp and he said you were familiar with the bulk of Beefheart's work, so I thought you might be interested in writing more beefheart reviews.
| CaptainDooRight i think you've been consistent enough, ive seen some staff nigs remain promoted after over a year of reviewing activity
| ExplosiveOranges I've really been digging some electronic and punk, along with some singer/songwriter stuff as well. I should probably jam some of the albums you've reviewed recently, considering how much you seemed to like them.
| ExplosiveOranges Ah. 'Tis a shame, since you're one of the more qualified writers on here. Any big digs as of recent?
| ExplosiveOranges Not much right now, man. Hope all's going well with your family and job. Just out of curiosity, are you gonna apply for staff during the next round of promotions?
| OmairSh Not sure if you've seen this already but it's beautiful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5b83zIoAoo
| Titan mena, can you rec me the best thing you've heard in the last 5 years or so?
| Titan hope everything is great with you!
| KILL yea talked about it in the raven, not enough bands rippin off rush these days so i aint complainin
| OmairSh Well its great if you found something that you're more passionate about. I have a high respect for teachers that are passionate, and would love to be able to teach part time sometime in the future.
| OmairSh A teacher? Nice, all the best with that. What were you doing before? I'm doing my MBA, will be done by December, then job hunting
| OmairSh Sup mena, how're things? Hows the family?
| Torontonian https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgWMiDMt0Bk. Here's a full album. don't worry about the length it honestly feels like it lasts about 5 minutes.
| Torontonian np, glad you liked. I can't get over how good it is.
| Torontonian Rec 4 U! THis is honestly the best thing i have ever heard.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T01l3huB-8
| Chortles okay cool, it sounds like open would be desirable bc i'm not a wiener who takes his headphones everywhere anyway. hopefully i'll find a pair to try out before i buy anything, the headphone selection in the stores where i'm at is pretty s***ty though
| Chortles you're a fan of open back headphones right? i remember you talking up grado headphones in a thread so i was curious about what you thought. i was pretty close to buying some senns recently but i am a bit hesitant going with closed back again bc they have never really impressed me too much
| OmairSh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKoL-sfT2UY
| Jots thanks! I'm trying to find a balance between 'fun to read' and 'informative' while putting my own spin on things, so hopefully I continue to improve in that regard
| Torontonian Your Marillion-marbles rating makes me sad :(
| Jots Sup Mena, would you be able to peek at my Grey Gordon review and give a bit of input? I'd appreciate it
| ExplosiveOranges I don't blame ya. The only major prog album I've checked this year so far is Heaven
| Voivod I agree, she sounds better on the calmer/psychedelic tracks, and on the wild ones she's merely decent.
| Mad. Yo man, just saw this review for an obscure krautrock record, looks like something you might be interested in: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/63875/Xhol-Caravan-Electrip/
| Voivod Hey man, check (like whenever, of course) this cellist's cover album, where she renders some classic/prog/rock classics with cello and drums - http://www.sputnikmusic.com/news/32212/Maya-Beiser-streams-new-album/
| greg84 Hey bro. Check out the new Dog Fashion Disco album. You should dig it.
| KILL its actually on piratebay as well, you know how to torrent right? http://pirateproxy.in/torrent/10572754/Renaissance_-_Scheherazade_And_Other_Stories_(2014)_MFSL_SACD_FL
| manosg hey man, I read in a Jethro Tull thread that you listened to Steven Wilson's remix of A Passion Play. Do you have a link for that because I can't find it?
| Arcade yo mena your futurology rating be out of wak
| Mad. Yo man, noticed you dug The Cosmic Dead, you should check Fjodor's latest album, it's also on bandcamp and pretty similar in sound and structure, but better imo. I added you on Lastfm btw
| greg84 Seriously... disliking any Mastodon album is so uncool.
| Voivod Hi man, I think that you will find this progressive rock band interesting, they are named Halo Blind and both their albums are streaming at their website - http://www.haloblind.com/shop
| greg84 http://plug.dj/progrocka/ as always
| Mad. Awesome man I'll check it, always up for recs
| Mad. Yo man I reviewed this album, you'd dig - quite like Gazpacho and another of 2014's best: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/62462/Messenger-Illusory-Blues/
| greg84 cool i'm free starting Saturday afternoon, 3 pm or so, send me a message then.
| greg84 dude, are u in the mood for some plug.djing?
| Arcade your rating is still a lot better than everyone else's on this site
| Arcade oh dude why did you bump your Ghost Stories rating up .5
| emester You went full out apes*** on that new coldplay, man. XD
| BigPleb not yet man but i will listen at some point, kinda dig coldplay tbh
| BigPleb flip s*** mena, going harder than ever before!!
| Jethro42 I love this song from Over; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwLWaKug3rg
| Jethro42 It's a pretty good reference. But it seems you were not generous with Patience and Enter K
| Jethro42 That's how his albums are rated from ProgArchives; http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=443
| Jethro42 I have to revisit Black Box. Fogwalking sounds great so far. Did you get around to Nadir's Big Chance and Over?
| Insurrection lol you shouldve gotten out while you had the chance
| Frippertronics hey, you able to check the proofreeding thread as I am currently writing a review for the new Swans album.
| Atari wasn't trying to be defensive or anything in the agalloch thread ha, just wanted to explain why i personally think it's a grower
| OmairSh I think your reviewing has always been good. But if you want feedback I can provide you some in the future (if there is need for it).
| Wizard Just wanted to say you have one of the most obscure and best tastes in music on this site. Checking out some of that Italian prog list right now!
| MrSirLordGentleman Hahaha it's excellent, since Nag's never on the site there aren't prog experts in here asides from JT, Jethro, Kill, meat and you, so it's nice to have more guys with a cool taste
| CalculatingInfinity I wasn't gonna say BG minus 'A Night at the Opera'. If you want pure cheese and awesome, check these albums out: Galneryus - Angel of Salvation and Rhapsody - Symphony of Enchanted Lands. If you want less over the top yet has brilliant songwriting, check out these: Kamijo - Symphony of the Vampire; Versailles - Noble and Kamelot - Epica/The Black Halo. Admittly I don't like the classics very much (e.g. BG and Gamma Ray) but these albums are in my eyes Power Metal worthy on anyone's attention.
| Lord(e)Po)))ts oh yeah dude. i'm just house/dog sitting for a friend for the summer. so i get to live for free in a nice apartment and take care of her dog named bacon face killah. so i'll be saving up lots of chedda for the school year when i move into a new house.
| Lord(e)Po)))ts nah was just travelling and moving! visited calgary and vancouver and changed houses too so i've been off the cyber grid a bit. and will do man!
| OmairSh No no I didn't mean that at all or I would have said something. On the contrary that was me signalling interest for the album since I didn't expect IQ to mix newer elements :-). I actually sort of prefer the shorter summaries
| Jethro42 I perso was born in the sixties, so I grew up with all the prog giants, I've seen most of them disappear, I got interested at Jazz couple years and I finally met the prog revival, a movement that we named neo-prog and later in the 90's the establishing of the modern prog in general.
| Jethro42 You have a copy of this? Bravo, omg. The keyboardist sounds false even if he uses some moog. His playing is forgettable. The guitar is uninspired too. The Police remain unbeatable in the genre. Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar...
| mandan Clive Burr is becoming one of my fave drummers man, he had an amazing feel. Nicko was great too, but I think he was a bit more predictable. Just my opinion dude.
| KILL looks i knew about it but never saw the link, hes quite the character
| Atari Wow. i guess that explains where he's been the last 4 months. I knew he was unstable at times but that's pretty messed up
| Atari no lol. i'm from the US you know ;) but that's not cool....link to story?
| Jethro42 Well maybe menawati. I'm gonna think about it. It's just that I'm surrounded by music I'm not familiar with.
| zakalwe I've given Country Joe a preview. Death Sound is an absolute belter! That Rattlesnake tambourine hits the spot!
| Jethro42 Yes I like that but it tends to be prog. I was thinking about that one btw ;)
| Jethro42 Interesting symphonic keyboard driven passage a la PFM, Le Orme or Banco. And these vox that reminds me a lot Locanda Delle Fate's singer. Great music, thanks!
| insomniac15 Thanks man! I sent them the questions when the album was released, but they only managed to answer a couple of days ago. Still, it's a good read, Bent took his time to write about everything.
| OmairSh Thanks for the rec, will try and get round to it reasonably soon
| KILL glad u enjoyed it, check out speak english or die by stormtroopers of death as well, another crossover classic
| Frippertronics it's pretty damn good, may do a review on it but who knows.
| Frippertronics duder, new Eno album out with Karl Hyde of Underworld (Born Slippy) for streaming
| OmairSh http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/62053/Angelfire-Angelfire/
| Jethro42 It's all stagnant for the moment, so I doubt I'll receive anything else at this point. Anyway it's more satisfying than having only 4 tracks from you tube!
| Jethro42 Thanks a lot, mena. Only one minor thing, I have tracks 1, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15. But I can do with it. Thanks again!
| Jethro42 By erasing, I meant my last email, with my email adress on it ;)
| greg84 I noticed that. I've been listening to Trophy Scars for many years now, and I got used to vocals. I think they are ideal for this kind of music. They sort of bridge the gap between punk and blues.
| Frippertronics you're quite the Heathen in this Reality, at all Hours...
| mandan By the looks of your Sabbath ratings, I guess you're not that much into them either. It seems you're more of a Zep guy.
| mandan I noticed your Deep Purple ratings, guess you're not a big fan of 'em.
| mandan In all honesty dude, I'm more a Priest guy than a Maiden guy, but I do have my respect for Maiden's songwriting skills. I think Priest were decent songwriters, but Maiden were definitely better in that department. Having said that, nowadays I find the DiAnno Era records far more intriguing than the Dickinson stuff. There was an energy in those albums that I just don't feel with the Dickinson Era.
| Lord(e)Po)))ts haha is my taste really that hard to figure out?? i feel like i tend to like most things that aren't s*** to some degree! ill give er a rip
| Chrisjon89 good call on that Neil Young Live at Massey album man. wasn't sure whether to expect a glorified bootleg in terms of sound quality but it was pristine. thought he sounded better live than on his studio cuts.
| JamieTwort I listened to Enter The Uninvited from the new Anderson album. Not bad but I'm hoping the rest of the album (or at least a good portion of it) is better. Gonna check it out in full soon hopefully.
| JamieTwort Nice, glad to hear it's not a let down or anything.
| JamieTwort I do intend to review it eventually but I'm super busy at the moment so I doubt I'll get to it for a while (got some other reviews in the works that have been put on hold too) so by all means feel free to review it if you want. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet.
| zakalwe Woah dude come on now your rating for Dodgy Homegrown is well Dodgy!!!
| IronGiant band sounds killer, thanks for the rec
| Pheromone I'd like to think so, they're kinda like brit bop but a lot less cheesy. Check out The Painted Word and see what you think of it
| Pheromone yo dude do you know Television Personalities?
| KILL lol the covers a bit like victor too
| KILL nice i'll give it a dl
| Frippertronics part 2 is definitely better, kind of a 4.2/4.3. Will decide soon..
| Frippertronics Well, so far, TAAB is alright. Kind of a 4.1 after part 1
| mandan Rush were amazing songwriters man.
| Frippertronics YOU USED ME LIKE AN ASHTRAY HEART CASE OF THE PUNKS RIGHT FROM THE START
| Frippertronics well, i think it's worth the price considering she hasn't toured since 1979.
| OmairSh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjEG808MfF4 There are subtitles if you're interested
| OmairSh Probably the best version I've heard. The guitar improvisation is utterly brilliant https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KX7Ot-ltacw. I never understand why Vinny's guitar is so low in the mix
| OmairSh You'll enjoy this, just listen to those vocals http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJwSZIajEvI, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OY_bi_2yikU.
| JamieTwort Good stuff. Definitely gonna check out their new album when I get a chance.
| KILL that was sweet, the rest of the album like that?
| Frippertronics but mena. YOU ALREADY DID. You just can't get it out of your head, that's all.
| Frippertronics yeah yeah, it isn't like there's some sort of confusion going round. Yours truly, 2095.
| Frippertronics Besides, it's only a new world record for someone to turn to stone so quickly. Nobody's child would subject themselves to that, unless they were a wild west hero, or a 21st century man.
| Frippertronics you're gonna need a ticket to the moon to be able to hold on to your dreams of Eldorado. Otherwise, it'll just be a whisper in the night.
| Frippertronics yikes, certainly not. apparently it's far more lenient in Germany and France as well. Over here, people are considerably far less responsible. Won't lie and say I've sneaked some whisky and sake every now and then, however extremely lightly.
| Frippertronics pfft I wish, only 16. Due to murrican law, I got a nice 4 and a half years til I can do that (legally, implying I probs won't have it and now then by college)
| Frippertronics do ya want to break a new world record out of the blue, or will you not be able to face the music?
| Frippertronics well concerning their catalogue and that they had tons of hits from 1975-1981, people probably know the greatest hits at the least. concerning prog, they're kind of ignored because of the pop aspects that become increasingly common by Face The Music.
| Frippertronics IT'SEITHERREALORIT'SADREAMTHEREISNOTHINGTHATISINBETWEEN
| Frippertronics cheesy rock songs are pretty great. Gentle Giant's "Betcha Thought We Couldn't Do It" and "Words from the Wise" come to mind. Both from their worst albums, but stand out for some reason.
| Frippertronics yeah, I heard he went way off around 78 or something like that. Still need to hear his other stuff besides Wizard/True Star and Utopia. I have Something/Anything, but never got to it. Probs will czech now doing that list.
| Frippertronics Another pretty thing dead on the end of the shaft of the Zen Archer...
| insomniac15 haha, that's great. yeah, there are some current staff members who are still part of the group and if all of you guys write your dibs it's easier to check things out. plus, it's useful for you too unless you talk to each other about who's gonna review what.
| insomniac15 It's no problem. I didn't have time to finish it until today. I will post it tomorrow, yours its really good and I don't wanna steal your thunder :D . Well, the staff's dibbing page is private, much like the contrib facebook page (even though some of us are part of it). However, if you guys write your dibs on the google document on the facebook page it's easier for us to see who's taking what. Until a few months ago, that document wasd constantly.
| KILL nice will do. have you heard the band england before? their album garden shed rules, lots of yes and genesis influence you'd love it
| CaptainDooRight Listened to some of those tracks you linked me. Pretty good stuff. I didn't listen to 100% of it but from what I heard I really enjoyed the folk parts that blended nicely with ambient sections. Also the electronic beats were good too. Nice stuff.
| CaptainDooRight probs only for the purpose of not getting neg'd. Also lol I think the modsd ma list
| CaptainDooRight Insurrection and I are friends. At least I still hope so. Lol he got the joke
| BigHans Dude jam that EP I reviewed yesterday, it rapes hard m/
| Mad. Yeah I guess you're right, still helps to have more than one person ask though I guess
| Mad. yo yo can you help me get a feature because the mods seem to have passed it up :\
| Mad. Yo, my Blue Horizon review is UP
| Voivod Hey, if you like Suzanne Vega, then you will find this female Greek artist appealing as well - http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/55217/Arleta-Demo/. Be sure to check the YT links, I think you will like them.
| Mad. Yeah they're a grower of a band. I thought Sleep Furiously was pretty meh and pretentious at first, but now I absolutely love it. Still pretentious tho
| Mad. Other one sucks anyway, all they've done is an Argus remake
| Mad. I don't know, might not be because he's not listed as in the band on their website. When was he with them?
| Mad. Thanks brah, it's actually a very impressive piece o work for a bunch of old geezers like them
| Mad. lol fair enough, Imma try review it at some point. Will probably review the new Wishbone Ash today
| Mad. Fair enough when you have 2000 ratings I guess lol. Have you heard Thumpermonkey - Sleep Furiously? I prolly recc'd it before but it's really damn good, unique modern prog. On bandcamp
| Mad. You 4.0'd it though! There's a lot of terrible modern prog bands out there, all over bandcamp and Progarchives, not that Fright Pig are terrible. Empty definitely describes it well though
| Mad. Hmm, they're pretty good musicians but the production was a bit dodgy (or maybe that's just YouTube) and the song struck me as a bit of a wankfest, wasn't bad though. Good luck reviewing it, doesn't seem like the easiest thing to write about!
| Mad. I ain't got no problem with that, there's plenty of classic prog out there that needs review *cough*Caravan*cough*
