This album has only one goal, and man if it fulfills it! Sound UGLY. Twisted intricate riffing throughout, courtesy of Robert Vigna, some of the most fericious vocals in DM history and a drumming whirlstorm.

In my opinion, it is not quite as good as Close to a world below and Majesty and Decay, but it is still high-quality Immolation, there is a lot to love about it.

Better than their debut in my opinion, "Here in After" is one of my favorite Immolation albums. It is a death metal classic. My favorite songs are "Nailed to God", "Burn with Jesus" , "Towards Earth" and "Christ's Cage".

Absolutely blown away, but not for the reason you'd expect. Dawn of Possession is a classic of OSDM that hints at a band that can improve and come into their own, but Here in After is not the result one would expect.
Sure, it's more complex, yes the lyrics are more well-written, but the music took a nosedive in quality. My feelings are the same for Failures for Gods as they both suffer the same issues: piss-poor production and a lack of musicality pure and simple. Riffs are truly uninteresting if you can make any of them out through the haze of "production" and the off-kilter time signatures are annoying rather than interesting. I feel that Immolation tried too much to advance their sound and lost their sense of songwriting along the way. Some songs are better than others as one would expect in any album (Christ's Cage being the standout), but they are all a far cry from Dawn of Possession or their magnum opus Close to a World Below.
The one positive thing that can be said for HiA and FfG is that they do show a music path from OSDM towards the hellish atmosphere in CtaWB and in that regard they are important. Clearly my opinion is in the minority, but I felt that it needed to be said.

Majesty And Decay and CTAWB are a bit better but this is still a fantastic dose of death metal. The only problem I can find with this is that the production is a little underwhelming. This was a nice dose of quite technical guitar work and "Nailed To Gold" is one of their stand-out songs to date.
