Why, oh why, oh why do so many 'classic' rock albums start off brilliantly and then fall down on their asses in the second half?
The story of Hotel California is a simple one - "Hotel California", "New Kid In Town", "Life In The Fast Lane", and "Wasted Time", a group we can loosely term 'the first four songs', are all brilliant. Then there's an orchestral reprise of "Wasted Time", which is pretty good, before another great song in "Victim of Love".
And then there's "Pretty Maids All In A Row", "Try And Love Again", and "The Last Resort". All so boring I can't remember the first thing about them. Dark Side Of The Moon syndrome or what?
So the great track vs. bad track ratio is high enough to make it worth owning. But this is no masterpiece.

Title track rules, Life in the Fast Lane is pretty good, rest is meh. Never realized Hotel California (track) was part of a greater concept (this album). Doesn't really matter as the album is really average anyway. Nothing of note whatsoever other than those two tracks. Meh.

The title track is filled with occult and double meanings and more melodic than Queen compilation. The ultimate country rock album.

I don't know why you wouldn't give this a 5 unless you're mad about hearing Hotel California and Life In The Fast Lane too many times. And I don't even like the fuckin Eagles that much

I love the 3 hit songs but the rest to me are just ok or even not very good. Pretty Maids is the worst Joe Walsh Eagles song and Try and Love Again is a mediocre at best Meisner sung song. Too many slow songs and only 8 total songs also makes it weaker to me than On the Border although the 3 hits are all awesome. Also Glenn Frey, my favorite Eagle only sings one song and Henley gets 5. I like Henley but I want more balance.

A very easy-listening album with some joyful music present. Highlights are obviously the well-known title track but the best song on the album has to be the beautiful 'Last Resort'.

The Eagles are easily one of the most distinguishable rock bands of all time. The song itself Hotel California is easily one of the most well known songs of all time. Along with New Kid in Town, Life in the Fast Lane and wasted time makes this album excellent. The rest of the album however feels a little bit lackluster in comparison, theyre not bad songs by any means, but all the better stuff is on the one half. However its a great album.

I love the Eagles so much! While this album is not a perfect album, it is definitely a classic album and it just happens to be one of the best selling albums of time, and it also happens to be one of the best rock albums ever made! Hotel California spawned many hits, including the title track, which is beautiful. 4.5/5
