A down on their luck trio who kick against the pricks and lambast the current culture with a record that is pure vitriolic fire that inspires a generation and gives voice to the youth. I am of course taking the piss.

For me, it's a pleasure to come across an all-female pop act whose goal seems to have been to deliver a catchy, straight-forward, well-produced album. The result: an album of solid songcraft inflected with the softer side of rock from the 80's, and surprisingly devoid of generic kiss-off tracks or pandering "girl power" tropes. That it's put forth without the current trend of trying to dress it all up in half-baked statements about modernity, fame, or "art" is only further testament to the group's focus on the music over the trappings of Twitter buzz and celebrity status.

Now that's one hell of a pop album. The Haim sis' formula is quite simple, but damn effective: a pop rock background, some new wave background effects, and a delivery that borders on R&B. This formula would have worked better on a shorter length, but when it's accompanied with top-notch songwriting ("Don't Save Me", "The Wire", "If I Could Change Your Mind" and others that equally slap), it's got everything you would want from pop music.

HAIM's reluctancy to build huge consistency throughout their debut album is what makes it lack the bona-fide structure of a great album. Even with that said, the three sisters provide plenty use of their signature 80s guitar picking, trendy keyboards and grooves making, Days Are Gone, a good album nonetheless, with mostly great tracks
