4.0 excellent | Douglas | August 7th 14 | this is like the sound of a think honey pouring down a river of chocolate bars, oozing into a wafer cone with sprinkles and chocolate on the outside, you know the ones.

2.5 average | bastni | February 7th 14 | While artists may often oversell their music?s contextual message, there?s a clear truth in McMorrow?s description of Post Tropical having remnants from the Southern Texas pecan farm at which it was recorded. McMorrow posits how a close listen can reveal the literal sounds of ?the hot bedded air?the birds on the trees?[and] the train going by.? These feelings arrive on the album as fond memories of experiences past while lying back in the snowy scene described above. This may be the strongest appeal of the album: its insinuation of positive recollection. It?s as if the listener isn?t directly given the feelings of warmth, but instead given the ability to conjure these sensations themselves. The result is nothing short of sublime.

3.5 great | AdamTerrell | January 22nd 14 | Really solid sophomore release. With 2012 releasing a large amount of sophomore slump albums (see the xx's coexist, Two Door Cinema Club's Beacon, the list goes on) and few sophomore albums released by bands I listen to in 2013, this album had me with mixed feelings when I first heard about it's release. 'Cavalier' dropped and I liked it, but it didn't feel like James Vincent McMorrow, it felt more like James Vincent trying to do a James Blake album. It was good, but just not what I expected. Then the full album came out. I've been listening to it pretty regularly and it's grown on me. Especially since it has a pretty strong winter vibe to it. It's nothing I see myself constantly listening to year round, but definitely something I can see myself coming back to time to time.

4.0 excellent | thejared | November 28th 13 | James channels a much more ethereal dreamy electronic vibe compared to the more folk based songs of the past. The beautiful vocals and instrumentation still remain, and the overall atmosphere is one that encompasses and grabs you never letting go much like his past material. I can only wait for where he goes next.
