Wow, is what I have to say about this album. Epica seriously brings the 'Epic' this time around. On top of the great single Unchain Utopia, the entire second half of the albums stands out as well as track 2, The Second Stone. I think Omen takes the cake as my top track though - just seriously fucking epic. One of the best, if not the best, symphonic metal albums I've heard.

Epica charge their music up on The Quantum Enigma with results that are both surprising and striking. The album makes one hell of a first impression and though the flair does wear off after a few listens, it remains an easy album to return to in small bursts.

quite possibly the best leading intro ive ever heard, second stone is a great opener, followed by the in equal parts awkward and awesome essence of silence, i swear at a couple points the chorus is yelling piii-kaaa-chuuu. victims is another weirdly-awesome track, same with insomnia. canvas is this albums tides of time and isnt bad, corruption another good track. rest is dece but not worth hearing again save the omen chorus. overall a powerfully bombastic something piece with great lines scattered throughout

confirmed: idc at all about power or symphonic metal. Competent performances and good vocals; it just sounds so trite, so cheap, trying to convey a grandeur that's not attainable. it always falls flat. also cheese.

Really a very great album from start to finish . I didn't give a proper listen the first time thus , rating only 4 . I think its worth more than just 4 .

This is probably the best that Epica have ever done. It's heavy, catchy and contains some of the best song writing of their career... of course it's still Epica, so there's the big 'cheese' factor as well.
