A surprising blend of 70's inspired New York proto-punk and hard rock gives a new edge to Of
Montreal that has never been present in Barnes' extensive repertoire. Lyrics come fast and hit
hard with power and vindication behind every word, and just as quickly are replaced by something
fresh and equally as manic. The constant stop-and-go style of the song's structures keep the
listener's ears perked at all times. Simultaneously a modest "live" record, that more than makes
up it's short studio recording time with ten polarizing narratives that depict a devolving passion
and a vicarious devotion. Of Montreal is a group that is inherently subject to changes and this
one in particular, is a welcome change. 3.7/5 Favorite Track: "Monolithic Egress"
