Favourite album for a really long time when i was a kid...

"Almost perfect" comes to mind first, but, I know as well as anyone else that Lostprophets aren't capable of perfection. Their first album showed promise- hope of a bright future. At the beginning, Start Something almost rings true as the magnum opus- everything fans of the first album hoped for. Sadly, due to the overall shortness of the album, frequent lyrical missteps, and one too many slow filler songs, Start Something is just a teaser for what could have been. As of late, Lost Prophets have edged into the puss-tastic category- shadows of their former badass selves. Many bands have fallen as far as they have recently, I'm just extra upset that it had to be them. Not the point- Start Something posseses one of my favorite songs of all time (Last Train Home) a few sick metal-tinged masterpieces (#1,2,5,9) and a few other slightly less good anthems. The rest is history-

At least now they dropped a lot of the shitty pseudo metal riffs and most of the singles are good. We're still hit with pretty mediocre song writing and a bit of nu metal riffs and it's still far from great.

Start Something is a more commercial album than the Lostprophets' raw nu metal debut Thefakesoundofprogress though in my opinion, it's more enjoyable and dare I say a masterpiece. Here, the band delivered some amazing anthemic tunes like 'Last Train Home' and 'Make a Move' along with more heavy sounding tracks like 'Burn Burn' and the title track. There are also occasional moments into more simple sounding rock tunes like 'I Don't Know' and 'Last Summer' which provide a good balance to the overall heaviness of this album. The instrumentation from the band is impressive and the songwriting whilst nothing amazing (though we shouldn't be expecting Richey Edwards level of lyricism here) is competent and works well alongside the compositions. Quite simply put, this is mainstream rock done right.

Lostprophets refine everything that made their debut so hit & miss, and deliver an album of 2004 contender with 'Start Something'. From the energetic opener to the experimental closer, the Welsh sextet superbly balances aggression & melody. The turntable/synth components subtly complement the sound this time, while Ian Watkins goes from Mike Patton impersonator to one of the best vocalists going around. The anthemic 'Last Train Home' was the smash hit, but this fun, catchy & rocking LP is so deep that almost every song could have been one. Recommended Tracks: Last Train Home, Burn Burn, Make A Move, I Don't Know & We Still Kill the Old Way.

I love every single song on here. the way they are connected with little interludes makes the album sound like one long masterpiece, there is plenty of variation here and means that you don't get bored of the album. Favourite songs:Last Train Home, Hello Again, Start Something, We Are Godzilla, You Are Japan.
