Napalm Death refuse to make any sense. Any pioneer of a prolific metal genre should be verging on irrelevant after 25 years of existence. But these guys just don't. This isn't simply a rehashing of their glory days either; this is a very original record with sounds and production at times that I can't compare to much other grindcore. The clean vocals, while sometimes a little cheesy, are a nice effect. Apex Predator/Easy Meat is a great example of what metal can be in 2015. I hope Napalm Death continue to be senselessly good.

Napalm Death now seem to be more of a hardcore sound than in the past, and that is a very good thing as this is the best album to be released to this point of the year.

Loses a lot of the more technical style found on Utilitarian in favour of catchier but still pretty organic death-grind format. Probably their best album since Enemies Of The Music Business or possibly even their early stuff.

Just absolutely relentless. These gods of grindcore have only gotten more brutal over the years, and this one is by far one of their most extreme. While the production is somewhat over processed on this record, they sound strangely earthy and crisp. Lots of intensity, I highly recommend it.

Apex Predator is, simply, another Napalm Death record. It's exactly what you'd expect from the band. There is some mild experimentation (the title track, "Hierarchies"), but for the most part this is the same heavy, relentless deathgrind as their last several records. Some of the material gets lost in the shuffle, but overall Apex Predator is an acceptable addition to the Napalm Death catalogue. More experimentation and risk-taking would benefit future records.

It's ironic that one of the songs on the record is named "How The Years Condemn", because it seems the years have been very kind to seminal grindcore band Napalm Death. A more apt description would be "Timeless Flogging". The group of 40-somethings still manage to be unrelenting and intense with their fifteenth album, though the opener, which is also the title-track, is plodding and slow-paced. From thereon after, it's full speed ahead, with tracks like "Smash A Single Digit" and "Stunt Your Growth" being especially ferocious. There's moments of experimentation here, most notably on the title track, and there is some clean singing on "Hierarchies" that makes an appearance, but this is kept under wraps in favor of unbridled aggression. All in all, Napalm Death still have it after all these years, somehow.

As masters of the musical style known as grindcore, Napalm Death have basically been seasoned veterans for awhile now. On the band's newest album Apex Predator - Easy Meat, they maintain a level of consistency that is both wonderful and downright horrifying; I'm not too sure what makes this type of steadiness scary, but that's a topic worth discussing for another time. Frontman Barney Greenway's growls of anguish and rebellion are not to be trifled with as usual, as he finds himself on equal footing alongside the crushing, instantly enjoyable instrumental work. Even when singing is brought to the table (e.g. album highlight "Hierarchies"), it barely hampers the general quality of the release. My fedora's sitting pretty over in the cesspits, and now I'm inclined to pick it up just so I can tip it to this band.
