4.0 excellent | Pebster49 | August 22nd 07 | This band is the perfect for showing off the two extremes in vocals, from death growls that are gutteral, deep and dark. To the beautiful vocals of Sabine, it shows the light and dark of emotions. The guitarists and drumming create an Melodic Death Metal like feel, that is pretty technical I might add. These guys are extremely catchy on songs like "Code of Honor", where you can't help but go with it. The only minus's I can think of is sometimes a song my drag on a little too much on a couple songs. Overall great effort from really a new band I just discovered.

3.5 great | Jared Floryan | July 14th 16 | Paradise is falling down even when Joe Sixpack least expects it to. He's in way over his head about as much as a part of me is, so to speak. Anyway, German melodic death metal entourage Deadlock have been an entertaining batch of people since they formed in 1997. Whilst nothing too distinctive in hindsight alongside the lyrics which are a bad sort of cheese, I can always count on this band to grab my attention in one manner or another. Launched in 2007, Wolves is the third studio record the act dished out and oft-seen by most folks as their finest hour, and it also marked a watershed in DL's career. Electronic sounds were integrated into the troupe's core melodeath style, thereby allowing for a bit more risk taking in the process. That said, however, this is by no means a consistent offering from start to finish; with strong hitters like "Code of Honor," "Crown of Creation," and the lovely "To Where the Skies Are Blue" come weak tunes such as "We Shall All Bleed" and the meandering "Losers' Ballet". Its unsteady nature and the occasionally spotty vocals from both Johannes Prem and (to a degree) Sabine Scherer aside, Wolves is still worthwhile enough in my book.

2.5 average | itchy | March 4th 11 | The formula of rhythmic chuggy riffs with Johannes' growls, followed by open chords or harmonized guitars
and Sabine's clean singing (repeat) gets tiresome. I understand that isn't outside the norm for the style of
music, but it doesn't make it any less predictable or weary.
Loser's Ballet sounds like a Dimmu Borgir impersonation and doesn't much fit with the metalcore/melodic
death metal sound of the rest of the album. Lastly, I am rarely interested in lyrics but they are quite bad in
a readily apparent and consistent fashion here. "Oh how I wish that I could die, You faggot you ruined the
code of honor "... seriously come on.
Otherwise, it is a collection of decently harmless songs (with beautiful singing from Sabine of course).

0.0 | violentmog | September 4th 07 | This album has a great balance of beauty and brutality, with the harsh vocals from Johannes, and the beautiful singing from Sabine. I guess my only gripe about this record is the balance of the melody and brutality in the instrumental department. A majority of the melodic sections are during Sabine's vocal sections, and the more brutal sections are during Johannes' parts, instead of mixing it up (at least for most of the album). With this aside, this a great album that any melodeath or gothic fan should enjoy.
