This mix tape is the most enjoyable collection from Drake to date. He isn't spending half the album whining about "haters" or being a thirsty bitch for any given girl. He talks about things in his life, his past and topics that haven't been done to death by himself. The minimalist production is really creating a style for himself and a sound that i can associate with Toronto. I await if he will continue this on Views From The 6

Things I learned about Drake by listening to this: 1.) He has a very negative opinion of Facebook, which he claims is not "real" enough for him and often distracts women he is trying to hit on, taking time away from what he'd rather do with them. 2.) He does not like to assist in police investigations even when said investigation does not involve him even in the slightest. 3.) He has a lot of enemies. Like...a LOT.

Drake goes on the trap route. While not as varied as his best two records - where are the R&B hooks bro??? -, the atmospheric and nocturnal vibes manages to install a mood.

i never really enjoyed a drake album before considering their previous albums often are a bunch of good tracks mixed with pretty awful ones and he tends to get too corny for my taste and while that happens here, it doesn't happen many times and the tracks that are good are reeeeally really good. not without its flaws but easily drake's best release so far! not enough to convert me into a fan of him though! 3+

Aubrey Drake Graham (born October 24, 1986),[1] who records under the mononym Drake, is a Canadian rapper, singer,songwriter, record producer, and actor. He was born in Toronto, Ontario.[2] He first garnered recognition for his role as Jimmy Brooks on the television series Degrassi: The Next Generation. He later rose to prominence as a rapper, releasing several mixtapes like Room for Improvement before signing to Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment in June 2009.[3]rDrake's EP, So Far Gone (2009), spawned the hit single "Best I Ever Had" and the moderate hit "Successful". I used to hate Drake, but my girlfriend wouldn't stop listening to this. While he's not the best out there, his approach to trap beats is more interesting than most. He was in Degrassi though, and I will never be able to get that image out of my head.

Refreshing lack of commercialized furnishings while still retaining the kind of hooks that dominate pop culture, which this lengthy album-quality "mixtape" delivers one after another after another. Not to mention, his rap game also has more space and time to be properly showcased, and as usual, he's all too eager to flaunt his ever-refined skill-set; bursting with clarity, confidence, and finesse. So maybe it's PartyNextDoor dropping in from Miami with some much needed warmth and a bottle of tequila or Lil Wayne's touch of muck that push me to realize that it's mostly stylistic neutrality that is his downfall - he's wound up so tight in fame, drama, looking in the mirror, and pushing to be "number one" that he forgets to lighten up, get loose, or mention much else.

I've never been too fond of Drake. I thought that Thank Me Later was good in spots, but very misguided. Take Care had some great singles and nice production, but I thought it was a bit inconsistent. NWTS was Drake with very little confidence in himself, and it reflected in his music despite the ethereal production. And now? He hits the mark in a totally unexpected release that just might be my favorite project of his. Drake has never been a lyrical rapper, but he drops some surprisingly good lines on this thing, most notably on closer "6 P.M. In New York". The production is similar to that of NWTS, and it's pretty sweet on its own. The biggest improvement here is that Drake approaches things with confidence in himself, while also recognizing he has flaws and turning them around on his detractors. His charismatic boasts don't sound so empty this time around, and his overall theme of getting used to being famous really works here. That is not to say the album doesn't have filler, but overall it is a consistent endeavor that has one thinking if this is just a preview of something bigger and better. We shall see.
