Bland instrumentals. Screaming that sounds like burping. Terrible clean vocals. Mediocre bass and drums. This is Atreyu. They are undoubtably one of the worst bands ever. Aside from all the things I mentioned above the can't right lyrics either. Here's and example.
It's so hard to see when eyes are rollin in the back of your head. It's even harder to speak when everything you say just comes out wrong.
Like really nice work guys. I've got another one for you. It's hard to walk with no legs! These guys have showed some improvement from this point in their career, but this album just can't receive anything higher than a 1.5

In the world of an angsty teenager, listening to Atreyu is an appropriate release of anger. I know that it was for me. Still, as the years go by, I understand the appeal Atreyu had, and still has, to their listeners. They play melodic metalcore, but it goes a bit further than that. The lyrics to these songs express heartbreak, angst, and sadness, and while they might be juvenile in most places, they're surprisingly good on songs like "Someone's Standing On My Chest" and "Lip Gloss And Black". There is an aesthetic here that fits the broken feelings of an angsty individual, and it's reflected through the music very well. The instruments sound so weak, so fragile, so sloppy, and so unthreatening that ultimately you have an accurate representation of how the band and their avid listeners feel. Alex's vocals are trying so hard to sound angry, but they just comes across as sad and alone. And yes, the majority of the songs here don't do much, but when they do, they do it great. "Ain't Love Grand?", "Someone's Standing On My Chest", and "Lip Gloss And Black" are all excellent songs that really work when all these things are considered. So yes, the album does indeed deserve criticism, but it also deserves credit for utilizing a sound that would appeal to their target audience: people like them.

Suicide Notes and Butt(erfly Kisses) just can't seem to decide whether the album itself wants to be a McIntosh, a Golden Delicious, or a decomposed tree stump. Atreyu shows incredibly brief, but thankful sightings of potential throughout their first album; notably on "At Least I Know I'm a Sinner" and "Lip Gloss and Black". Beyond those tracks, unfortunately, the rest of the CD's songs are nigh-barely even worth one listen, and they're plagued with lyrics which read akin to a manic-depressive kid's diary entries. If you're a metalcore nut, try listening to another band whose members bear more vigor and thought-out formulas.

Seeing where this band is now musically, it's surely pleasant to look back at what they used to be. 'Suicide Notes' has it's moments of ear candy, mainly lead by the entertaining guitar based sections that pretty much make a lot of the songs. Beyond that, everything else here is good but just feels like a bit too much. Without a doubt this is the highest moment in the bands career, and maybe sticking to this time in their career is a safe bet for fans.

*barf barf, barf barf* That's the first thing I connect with Atreyu. Yes, you can spot the singer pretty fast from a crowd, but it's more funny than good for the music. I did not really like the guitar sound on this album either, it was... strange. What gives the whole thing the deathblow are the lyrics. Sorry, but there are other bands that do the exact same thingway better

This was a recommendation from a friend. Atreyu is his favorite band. He let me hear a song or two and I didn't absolutely love it, but I didn't absolutely hate it, either. So I went out and bought this pice of crap. When I was reading the lyrics I noticed some explicit content throughout the album. I told my parents, and they made me get rid of it (they don't allow me to buy explicit stuff). I popped it into the player to see what I was missing out on before I sent the thing back. Wow. I wasn't very impressed. Sure, it had some nice guitar riffs here and there, but the "singer" was so harsh and pig-sounding that I couldn't even understand what he was saying. The whole thing was just a jumble of screams and heavy metal wannabes. Now, I'm not trying to offend the Atreyu fans out there, I'm just saying that in my opinion they suck. I wasted my money and was not satisfied with this album.
