I now have a legitimate reason to keep on living my worthless life. EDIT: Amazon pushed the NA
release date by 2 weeks and my patience is gone. Heard the leak and it's extremely awesome,
everything I expected from Arcturus and more. EDIT 2: "While smartly ignoring the fourth" Yo, they
didn't ignore it. Just listen to Archer as it's completely similar to a lot of SS man. Also
ignoring ANY Arcturus is a crime.

I haven't enjoyed an Arcturus record this much since I first listened to The Sham Mirrors nearly five years ago. Great stuff.

Anomalous and vaguely innovative, Norwegian avant-garde metal band Arcturus's 2015 record certainly tries as best as it can to convince listeners that utmost patience is a virtue in moments such as this. Arcturian, although not really a cakewalk to sit through, is like an ingenious marionette sitting on the lap of a fair maiden once people begin to let it grow on them. It's beauteous from an instrumentation perspective, and the album proper may very well stand the test of time. The fusion of black metal, folk, electronic music, and also symphonic elements here is cheesy, but keep in mind that bombast and goofiness do have what it takes to live long and prosper. Arcturian, clocking in at 47 minutes, is an undeniable attention grabber - and it's extremely fun from start to finish. ICS Vortex's vocals combined with the unpredictable, yet strong instrumental work are a delight and a half.

After the release of Sideshow Symphonies, I had little hope that the Norwegians would return to the grandeur of their past albums, so the brilliance of Arcturian definitely caught me off guard. Every element - the elaborate electronic parts, the folk manipulations, the black metal outbursts, the floating keyboards emulating the random configurations of the Northern Lights - has been masterfully appended in each song; The album highlight though, is none other than Vintersorg's vocals, and that comes from a die-hard fan of Garm and La Masquerade Infernale, which is still the best Arcturus album by far. The weirdest album of the year, and also one of the greatest! As someone who is new to Arcturus and avant-garde music, I was actually surprised by how crazy their music is. This is pretty amazing stuff that is way out there, but also implements what I love about experimental and progressive music: it gives us something we've never heard before. If you're a fan of this style, definitely check this one out.

Futuristic symphonic progressive metal. While others seem to genuinely enjoy the clean vox, I'm having a lot of trouble with this kind of overly theatrical (read: power metal) vocals. The harsh ones are extremely good though. Musically this is top-notch, the music flows seamlessly between calm and extreme moments, and only the clean vox are meh.

This album could have been so, so, so GOOD with a fine production. But no, they had to go the kvlt way. And some fine and original metal like it were recorded in a black metal studio of the nineties. What a waste!

This is REALLY GOOD, really, just one listen in and I'm blown away... will spin it more to give an accurate rating... It has a haunting atmosphere, and then comes a raging storm and after that the sun shines again... it really is that good....
