3.5 great | Comatorium. | April 23rd 15 | Decided to rewrite my two cents after a few more spins. This album is stupid fun, and while it's definitely
dominated by Spencer's vocals, the performance is dynamic and way less fucking annoying or grating than
anything he's done with Periphery. The lyrics are all alright when I consider what I ask for out of a band like
From First to Last, and that certainly isn't lyrical genius. I don't know whats left of the original lineup, but
the album is an above average metalcore romp and the bonus tracks are a good addition.
Also... Really? You never thought you'd say that? I say that at least twice during any given Periphery
song...

3.5 great | Samisnthere | April 28th 15 | Wish Matt sang more and Travis screamed more but spencer really outdid himself. I actually thought I don't wanna live in the real world was a catchy song. Stupid lyrics but gets to the point that it's a joke song. Overall amazing release

3.0 good | Jared Floryan | April 28th 15 | Anyone else find it bizarre how Spencer Sotelo's a better fit for From First to Last - an extraneous post-hardcore band catering to cowards and suicidal teens (stereotyping's fun!) - than he is for progressive metal unit Periphery? Well, maybe it's just me or something. But when all is really said and done here, Dead Trees is a no-frills, enjoyable release. The lyricism's barely much to write home about, but considering the themes FFTL and their peers are known for dealing with, it can be overlooked due to the crunchy, serviceable instrumentation suiting the rather savage personality of the album. It's primarily mindless fun and our insecure team of wolves are capable of delivering on that. I could, however, do without the introductory number as it adds nothing to the quality and the final song "I Don't Wanna Live in the Real World". The last track ruins the overall mood and I don't feel content with making Guantanamo Bay jokes, so there.

5.0 classic | TJM1992 | April 23rd 15 | Really digging this, their heaviest work by far. The whole album is enjoyable minus ender "I Don't Wanna Live in the Real World". Come on FFTL, what were you thinking with that one?

5.0 classic | BenjiFinnegan | April 27th 15 | Hate me all you want. This album is gold. I can hear a lot of elements of FFTL Heroine and Throne
To The Wolves in some of these tracks. Ernie (new drummer) has done a spectacular job at trying to
meet the expectations of topping Derek's drumming, I forgot the name of the track on this album
but the
time signatures in it were amazing. Spencer's and Matt's vocals go really well together, though
Spencer's vocals can get irritable, he did a great job. In the remake tracks it feels like he's
trying to get a similar sound to Sonny whilst still adding his own take on it and it's worked
really well. Travis' screams have definitely improved and stand out quite a lot on this album.
Matt,
Travis, and Taylor's guitar work is on point, truly magnificent but you can hear some generic
elements in there.Matt Manning as usual, did a great job on the bass lines. Lyrics are standard,
nothing unique but always catchy. I Don't Want To Live In The Real world sort of kills the album a
bit but I guess each album has a downside. Gutted there's no track with Sonny on it because that
would have made it.

0.0 | tresm87 | April 25th 15 | they really did an awesome job with this album. spencer is pretty great in this, but i was a bit let down that matt didn't really sing at all, and travis didn't really have any mega screams. Instrumentally it might be their best stuff.

4.0 excellent | Joshuafdts | April 25th 15 | Loved the instrumentation and vocals throughout the album. Only problem I had was the song "I Don't Wanna Live in The Real World". Felt like they could have spent the time that they used recording that to re-record a song like Emily or something. The bonus tracks were really, really good. Favourite tracks are "H8 Meh", "Back to Hannalei", "2 11", "Straight to The Face", "Never in Reverie" and all the bonus tracks.

0.0 | TheFourthCircle25 | June 6th 15 | Cheesy, yes, but still a fun, catchy record for fans of post-hardcore. Spencer Sotelo does a great job on vocals, though this is far from a Periphery record. The music itself is typical of post-hardcore or pop punk music, so if you don't like that style this album won't change your mind. There's also a really ridiculous song towards the end called "I Don't Want To Live In The Real World," which is easily one of the best worst songs of the year. Overall, not a bad listen and a lot of fun, but far from a masterpiece. 7.5/10

3.0 good | Kronzo | May 8th 15 | Dead Trees is alright. There is some truly catchy material here, but it all seems a bit over-produced and way too polished. The production, and to a lesser extent, the writing, makes it sound more like a Periphery album than a From First to Last album. Fans (myself included) clamoring for a true successor to Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has A Bodycount will be a bit disappointed but will still find something to enjoy here. The last original song was a bit cringe-worthy, but brought back the occasional humor their aforementioned older material had. The re-recordings of older tracks were nice, and Spencer Sotelo performs them well. Unfortunately, it's just not quite the same without Derek Bloom playing his signature drum parts. Overall, I mildly enjoyed this, but these guys were definitely way better as a grittier Thrice-inspired post-hardcore band. 3/5

3.5 great | AmbushReality | May 3rd 15 | Its painfully obvious that Matt Good is still writing all the tunes for this band, as every song sounds like a b-side from the last project Good was in on, D.R.U.G.S., and its just very average. Spencer Sotelo, however, is clearly well above Craig Owens (or even Sonny Moore for that matter) in terms of vocal ability and proves it here. Tracks like "H8 Meh" just beg the question, "Haven't I heard this before?" Hell, Spencer even sounds like Owens on that track. Its nothing new, its nothing special, and its certainly nothing more than average in what is becoming a very diluted and stale genre.

2.5 average | iGuter | April 29th 15 | Dead Trees' intention is to entertain afans and newcomers alike as a reintroduction with invigoration and inspiration. It won'texactly appeal to everyone but it's obvious that there's A passion and a drive that compels to make this album.

3.0 good | TheGreatQ | April 29th 15 | Could be a 3.5 if Matt sang more (at all? honestly couldn't tell), the instrumentation was less bland, and the lyrics were a little better. Spencer fits well with this band, though.

0.0 | Ghost22446 | April 29th 15 | This album has the same problem as it's title track. Don't get me wrong, some songs are
catchy and vocals sound good here, but everything else is either mediocre or bad. Also,
that last song... (excluding the bonus tracks)

3.0 good | paradox1216 | April 29th 15 | Dumb and catchy modern post-hardcore fun that sometimes approaches brilliance with stuff like "Back To Hannalei".

0.0 | Durrzo | April 23rd 15 | Really fun album. Spencer is a good fit and gives a pretty over the top but awesome performance. The last track is beyond silly though, I have no idea what they were thinking with that one. The old tracks are great, actually wish there were more of them.

2.5 average | MegaJake1024 | April 23rd 15 | Actually sounds really good at times, but its pretty hard to get around how annoying it is - mostly due to exaggerated emotional vocals and ridiculously immature lyrics and then just how high Spencer's voice is.
