Definitely stepping up their game instrumentally and moving towards a sound with lots of influences from Brand New whilst still maintaining their touch. The ballads in this album aren't as strong as in the past but it's just a minor fault and overall most of the songs are good. This album is 2nd best to A Lesson in Romantics and it's a strong effort from the band

This is going to be a polarizing album apparently, but I honestly believe it's their best. They try a lot of new things, and amazingly they virtually all work to varying degrees. Evolution like this from a band that NEVER takes risks should be commended.

Mayday Parade are showing us their heavy side? "One of Them Will Destroy the Other" actually sounds promising. edit: After my first soundoff after hearing more than just their first single, I now know this isn't just a heavier outing. Mayday Parade take some risks and completely reformulate their sound. Their earlier days were catchy pop-punk. This album; however, is more of an emo approach. It has a Brand New vibe to it. Very wonderful album. It's definitely their most unique release as of yet. Romantics is still my favorite as of now, but it's an admirable effort to distance themselves. Curious to see what they have next for us.

mature? yes. but catchy? not really. mayday parade sold their soul to show progress, but I really don't know if this is a good thing for a band that has a legendary-status in jolly pop punk. I'd rather have another Lesson in Romantics than this bleak gloomfest.rtl;dr: it's a good record still, but it's just not for me or for oldschool MP-fans I guess.
